PSAA, or ‘Paranormal/Supernatural Alien Activity’ was a field of study that The Liger Brigade went out of its way to keep from the public eye. Being what the name suggested, it was arrogant to assume that alien species did not have their own gods, angels, and demons. The same went for any phenomenon that could not be easily explained. People like Sam and Will would be utterly confused as to why PSAA was such a hot topic and why it needed to be kept so secretive. They had met literal gods, higher dimensional entities, and been to a realm that is not supposed to exist in the first place. The core issue was that Earth and its sister planet, Atlangea, were pretty different from the rest of the universe. Whereas the two planets sought out that the divine and infernal through faith or logic, other civilized planets did not quite share this zeal. Other planets had their own religions, but they more often than not lacked a firm belief in Inferno, and that is where the issue lay.
The demons and angels of alien civilizations were poorly documented and understood, if documented and understood at all, and that posed a great threat to humanity. Sure, The Liger Brigade was all too familiar with angels and demons, but that went for the ones from the portions of Heaven and Inferno that dealt with Earth. While many cultures across Earth had means and doctrines dedicated to dealing with these forces, this did not apply to ones from alien civilizations. It was no problem for groups like The ULTRAMagic Guild who could deal with such threats with ease, but Earth did not have that luxury on a regular basis. This is where The Liger Brigade and another organization came in, researching and dealing with these issues. Normally the conflict with The Eternal Order would not have crossed paths with PSAA, but there was a certain phenomenon related to Barry and Kyu that their foes had become interested in.
“...and that’s PSAA in a nutshell,” Antares said as he guided the group through the halls of the PSAA unit. Wing X was fairly lively despite how startling it could be, but this section was foreboding in a way that could not be shaken off. The futuristic, metallic onyx walls lit with white LED lights created a sense of dread as the personnel minded their own business, their faces masking haunting terror that chilled them to the bone. They were all strong fellow Ligers, but that fortitude was challenged on a regular basis by things Will and Sam would have easily shrugged off.
“I’ve actually had some exposure to this stuff before,” Will remarked as the others were authorized through a checkpoint, being passed under a device that resembled a metal detector. “Antares, can I talk about the Men In Black stuff?”
He hesitated a little thinking about it as he watched Valentin pass under the gate. He chuckled when Valentin smiled and gave double finger guns to the security guard, knowing all too well what was being referenced. “I’d prefer if 4276 was here…”
“Well perfect timing, because she’s here right now,” a scientist with light brown, mild bed-head hair said as he was walking by. His uniform was a black and purple jumpsuit and he had a strange pair of glasses that had a pearlescent silver effect to them. Notably his presence felt bizarre, like he was not supposed to be on Earth. “Welcome back, Ford.”
“Hey, Jude!” Will said as he shook his hand. “Guys, this is Jude Lundin–he’s my guy for dealing with the stuff I encounter… That I now have the guild for…”
Jude laughed and jotted something down on his clipboard. “Well I don’t mind working with The ULTRAMagic Guild–Lt Colonel?”
“Of course, Jude,” he answered as he handed another worker a signed document. “I’ll talk to Aalders and the others as soon as we’re done… and after we stop by Zarnak’s birthday party.”
Will then brought Sam over. “Sam, you remember Jude, right?”
“Good to see you again,” she said as she shook his hand.
“You too, Sam…” Jude quickly noticed Morrigan’s essence. “Or should I say Morrigan Devilfay?” he wondered with a chuckle.
“Only when my hair’s purple.” They both laughed.
Jude nodded and got the other introductions out of the way. “Back again, Valentin?” he cheekily asked.
“Well at least this time it’s not a break in, ha,” he answered.
Given who was present and what he had learned thanks to The Red River City Incident, Jude was able to piece together why the group was there. “Taking them to see the pyramid shard, Antares?”
He nodded. “Absolutely–and given Barry and Kyu here? Things are getting interesting to say the least.”
Jude leaned over to Sam for a second. “Just wait until you get a load of the weird stuff we’ve been tracking down…”
“I can imagine,” she said with a nod.
“Before I head back to my lab, Kyu–did you get that document on IGSE-333 I sent you?”
Kyu stepped away from the worker he was quickly talking to and nodded. “Yeah–you honestly think something from The Lost Era may have influenced his awakening?”
“I don’t know, but since you’ve been looking into it as of late…” He then checked his watch and began to step away. “Shoot, better get back to work before we have another visit from Sebastian, haha. See you, Will.”
“See you, Jude!” Will then turned back to the others. “I don’t have that much of a hidden track record, all things considered.”
Bethany was able to deduce where they were going from a metal lift with glass floor panels that rose up to their level in the distance. “Can we get moving? This place is giving me the heebeegeebee’s…” She then stepped out into what she thought was a lobby only to be stunned when she discovered it was a cybernetic chamber that was as big as a great cavern. “What in the blue blazes is all this?!”
Antares and Will laughed as they approached the guard rails with the group, who were amazed by what they saw. “Welcome to the PSAA unit, Bethany,” said Antares. He then pointed to the great, black pyramid with glowing lights all over in the distance. “And that’s our black pyramid–you guys have heard of the black pyramids before, right?”
Barry was in awe and beside himself in disbelief, with Kyu needing to get his attention to get him on to the lift. “Sorry, it’s just that… that’s the pyramid I used to get to modernity.”
Antares nodded with a smile that gave the impression that a theory had had just been confirmed. “Erika will explain more when we get to where we’re going, but to give you guys the skinny; the black pyramids were thought to be part of an energy grid for the longest time–anyone familiar with the black pyramid of Alaska will be aware of this…” he then pressed some buttons on the control panel, causing the lift to start moving down the great metal structure they departed. “Thanks to insight from The League, we were able to find out that they were actually from The Lost Era, something Kyu and Barry know a lot about…”
The lift eventually came to stop far down on what was deemed the ‘ground floor.’ After it transitioned onto another rail, it moved along the track at a quick pace to the next stop. The group passed by many strange buildings that were utilitarian in design and maintained the dark look with glowing lights. All of it was incredibly eerie, like the group had wandered into another realm entirely. Eventually the lift came to a stop at one of the buildings, locking into the platform with a thunk that lightly jolted the group. ‘UNIT-B3’ was emblazoned on the wall above the door and Antares led the group inside once the double doors slid open gently with the sound of hissing air. They entered a hallway with artifacts and objects on display, and Antares began explaining some of them.
“Operation Nightshock brought that black gem to our attention, as a group of alien ghosts tried to take over Tampa Florida during a hurricane–not the ghosts of aliens, alien ghosts. The gem created portals to a reality error we still don’t understand. Thankfully we were able to drive out the invaders and keep it all confidential.” Antares pointed to a crystal skull in another display that caught the group’s interest. “While not the famous crystal skulls you’re all familiar with, these artifacts from unknown civilizations pop up every once in a while. This one showed up in New Brunswick, with a sister skull in the Northwest Territories–they seemed to be summoning demons from the 55 Cancri system, which is odd because those planets are inhospitable.” And finally Antares pointed towards a photograph of a group of bald men and women in business suits and fedoras. “And that is from Operation Roswell, marking the success of the mission–Will was involved in that one.”
Sam went up to inspect the photograph, a little confused. “Wait, I don’t see Boyo here…”
Will stepped over as Antares went to open the door to the room they needed to enter. “I’m right there–in disguise.” Valentin had also walked over and nodded. “It’s my MIB uniform throwing you off.”
“What were you guys doing there?” Sam asked with an incredulous smile on her face. “I mean, isn’t that UFO central?”
Valentin chuckled. “Well given where we are, I’d imagine it was more than just saucers and little green men.” That made the others laugh.
“Well step inside and I’ll show you what they needed Will’s expertise for…” Antares said as he opened the door and welcomed everyone to follow him in.
Before they could go any further, Orion of all people had stopped them. “MOM, DAD–What was all that about?! You tell me to stay home on the day Sebastian decides to attack?”
Will was a little nervous given that a civilian had appeared in the PSAA unit, despite it being his son. “Sport, I told you to go through visitor protocols…” Orion grumbled at him with his arms crossed as he and Sam panicked a little. Antares and the others were also startled.
“Don’t worry, dears, he followed the rules,” a woman’s voice said with a chuckle.
Standing on the opposite side of the room overlooking an object in a glass container was Erika Woodall, the head scientist for The Liger Brigade. She was a reasonably tall, gorgeous woman in black bodysuit, with brownish-ginger hair and purple eyes. The wife of Dr. Reynard and originally The Mercury of Old, Erika was at the forefront of research into the Lost Era when she was not working on new gadgets for the Brigade. Next to her was another woman, who was standing next to Will in the Operation Roswell photo (even though it was a little hard to tell). She seemed to be wearing a full body, rubber-like skin suit underneath her tuxedo that hid any identifying features aside from the openings for her orifices (the openings thinning near edges to prevent an uncanny appearance). The only identifying badge on her person said ‘MIB-4276.’
Orion groaned as he went over to Eirka. “I get what all of you were saying, Mrs. Woodall–dad really is accident prone on missions…”
Antares laughed as he and the group gathered around. “Did they tell you about his secret missions, kiddo?”
He nodded with annoyed expression. “Yup…”
“Will, good to see you again, sweetie,” Erika said as she hugged Will.
“Hey, Erika…” He then broke away from the hug. “Hey–you didn’t put any experiments on me again?”
She gave a cheeky smile and held up a strange device. Will was about to react, but then it turned into confetti, revealing it was merely an illusion. “I’m just kidding, dear–this time at least!” Erika had a good laugh and adjusted her silver glasses as Will facepalmed, with the others chuckling to themselves. “Anyways–Sam, welcome to the Brigade.”
They shook hands with Sam smiling. “Thanks, Erika. Also how have you guys been doing?”
“Just fine–M.A.I.G. got a huge funding boost after the Red River City shindig and Rey has been busier than a bee in a field of flowers. And by the looks of it you all have been busy too.”
Sam giggled. “Well you know–just returning to old friends, Boyo getting into misadventures in The Unlight, and what happened earlier? Busy busy busy.” The two laughed together on that one, making the others smile.
Will then took a breath and turned to Orion who still seemed a little upset with him. “Now, Orion? I understand the worry–but it was legitimately dangerous out there! I nearly got shot multiple times…”
“Dad, how is that supposed to ease my worry?”
He paused with an awkward smile, with Valentin patting him on the back. “Um, well…”
“Well to be fair, Orion–you do have to bring yourself down to the third dimension,” Barry pointed out.
“Thank you, Barry,” Will replied.
“Mm-hmm,” Sam agreed. “And that’s not to mention Haze here…”
Haze then stuck Will’s hand up to speak. “Heya, Orion! Don’t worry, I’ll keep your father safe–promise.”
Orion went up and inspected Haze’s hand. “I see… Why do you have a piece of Dunja’s soul?”
“Long story, kid,” he answered with a chuckle. “I’ll tell you later.”
“You should definitely tell Will and Sam too,” Barry pointed out. He then turned to face the group. “Everyone?” He said with an anxious hum of electricity, startling them a little. “Before we get into the fragment–Kyu?” Kyu stepped up to him with a nervous smile on his face. “Come here, little brother!” he said as he gave him a big hug. “Jeez, I thought I’d lost you!”
“Me too, big bro,” said Kyu. “Jeez, what a wild ride that was…”
Will was glancing between the two, mildly confused. “You two are brothers? Where’s the resemblance? Err, no offense…”
Kyu laughed a little. “It was more obvious back in the Lost Era–Barry, real quickly, what were our names back home? Do you remember?”
Barry put his hand on his face and hummed with contemplative arcs of electricity. “I don’t think we had names like everyone does in this era… I mean I ascended to the status of Lost Lightning God, but… hum…”
“The Lost Era was a different time, Will,” Kyu stated.
Valentin had gone to take a seat at a nearby table with Bethany. “So about the Lost Era, gentlemen? Sylvia warned me about it, and I trust Karnage is poking his nose where he shouldn’t–which is why we’re here, yes?”
Erika nodded as she pressed some buttons on a control panel that elevated the glass case with the fragment a little. “Ultinn most certainly… and Audoin Dethbrand, who have been receiving aid from the Lost Darkness God and Surtr…”
“Wait, WHAT?!” Barry said as freaked out with more arcing electricity. Kyu also shared this panic as his feelers shot up like a cat’s freaked out tail. “If Surtr’s involved, it’s worse than we thought…”
“Surtr?” Sam inquired. “Norse mythology Surtr?”
“He’s no myth, Sam,” Kyu warned as he calmed his feelers. “The Lost Darkness God was trouble to begin with, but Surtr is something else entirely. Legends say he came before even the Lost Era… not even we were sure where he came from–it’s one of the few mysteries Raziel will be open about, because even he’s not sure.”
Will nodded and stepped over to the fragment. “Scotty was talking about this–The Dark Divers have been looking in it too…” he sighed and hung his head.
“Don’t worry, 333, we’ll figure this nonsense out,” the woman in the tuxedo said as she stepped over to him.
Will smiled and shook her hand. “Good to see you again, 42. Everyone, this Men In Black Agent 4276. We worked together on Operation Roswell.”
Erika clapped her hands together. “Well I’d dare say that is a perfect segue to talk about the pyramid shards. Strap in, kids–this is going to be a little complicated…”
