Reunion A (November 5th, 2024)

Will softly groaned as he looked up at the late-nineteenth century, three-story house he and Morrigan called home. Having been renovated throughout the years, the ageless building stood the test of time sitting proudly atop Sunset Hill, and felt like it was welcoming the couple home as the smell of late autumn filled their noses and the breeze brushed up against them in the bright sunshine, without a cloud in sight. “Hum, what was that saying? Home again, jiggity jig?” Will said as he looked around at the warm-colored forest, noticing the copious amount of leaves all over the ground.

Morrigan brushed her dark purple hair out of her mouth and adjusted her armor. She could sense the anxiety in his voice. “Boyo, we had to come home eventually…” She pointed out as she placed her hand on his shoulder.

A quick shudder startled Morrigan a little, but Will eased her with a simple gesture. “I… I know, Sam…” Will then noticed a boy looking through the window and darting away, which put a smile on his face as he stroked his short beard. “Well Orion is eager to see us, ha.”

“See, Boyo?” Morrigan said as she walked up the rickety steps, which creaked as she put pressure on them. “I know things were frustrating before we left–but now you have ULTRAMagic!” she cried as she opened the heavy door whose hinges squealed. “And void magic to boot…”

“Yeah, yeah…” Will conceded as the ambient smell of incense, baked goods, and timeworn wood hit him. He had to admit being back home was easing his nerves a little. And he was about to continue his train of thought, but was cut off by his adopted son…

“Mom, Dad!” Orion exclaimed as he hugged each of them. “Welcome home!”

Will ruffled the boy’s light cyan hair, causing him to laugh. “Orion, you visited us right before the Future Squad mission.”

“I know, but you were gone for another month, and I felt it. Hey, Kyu! Dad’s back!” he called out up the stairs.

“About time!” his voice called back. Coming down the stairs, Will and Morrigan were surprised to see him wearing a white and purple Liger Brigade uniform. Upon reaching the ground floor he straightened out his coat and brushed his pink hair back a little. “You’d think things would’ve calmed down, but no, it’s been a crazy month.”

“Kyu, what’s all this?!” Will wondered, pointing out the badges pinned into his coat. “Did you actually join the Brigade?”

“Yes I did, Will!” Kyu answered with a bit of pride in his voice. “Will, Sam? Firstly, welcome home. Secondly, look, I know you have your reservations about me joining, Will–but I was worried sick all throughout The Red River City Incident…”

“Wait, ‘The Red River City Incident?’” Will asked with a chuckle to Morrigan, with her giggling as she took a seat at the dinner table, her armor clanking as she did. “Is that what we’re calling it now?”

Kyu shook his head with a chuckle of his own as he put his hands on his hips. “Yes, Private Ford, that’s what we’re calling it now. But in all seriousness, Will, after all we’ve been through, and the encounters we had with the Men In Black back in 2018, why wouldn’t I join the Brigade?”

“2018, Boyo?” Morrigan questioned, realizing this was something she had not been told about.

“Kyu, you realize that’s still classified, right?” Will said as he went to the pantry above the furthest right counter space to find a candy bar to eat, settling on an oatmeal-raisin granola bar. “But yeah, me and Kyu were brought in for questioning back then…”

Orion was definitely curious, but also a little concerned as he sat down on the couch. “Well it couldn’t have been too bad, right dad?”

Will shrugged as he swallowed his food. “I mean, they just asked us some questions… and had us vacuum sealed in rubber containment pods…” That last part he muttered, feeling a bit awkward mentioning it.

“WHOA, hold the phone, Boyo!” Morrigan interrupted. “What’s this about rubber pods?”

Realizing his gaffe, Will put his hands up. “AHH! Let’s not discuss this stuff here! Ahem, I get it Kyu, I get it…”

Kyu laughed to himself as he also took a seat at the dinner table. “Will, I think you’re overreacting a little, given who we’re talking to and the fact that the Lt. Colonel wants to speak to Sam…”

This caught Will off guard as he stepped on the peddle for the trash can and tossed the metallic wrapper in. “Lt. Colonel? Lt. Colonel who?”

“Lt. Colonel Briggs, Will! Didn’t Sam tell you about it?”

Morrigan took a second to remember what Adrien had mentioned to her right before Will had left for the Future Squad mission. “Oh, wait, is that what he was going to mention? He kind of had to leave in a hurry…”

Kyu pointed at Morrigan, then Will, trying to put everything together. “Wait… OH, right!” he said with a clap as Antonio quietly joined them. “Yeah, Adrien got called down to Mexico to help get Sky Fortress Dorado off the ground…”

“NO WAY,” Will replied with excitement in his voice.

“Yes way! There were some hiccups, but it’s up in the air now… although, there was an anomaly. You know how The Extinction Order loves to employ criminal gangs and syndicates to hinder our progress, and the cartels are no exception… but weirdly their activity died out, even to the point where even the bounty hunters are noticing. Hellrazer was the first to bring it to our attention.”

Even if the full scope was somewhat lost on Will, Morrigan, and Orion, the implications made Will shudder a little. “Geez, who could even pull off something like that?”

“Well, at least they're out of your hair, am I right?” Antonio interjected.

Will smiled, going over to hug Antonio. “Hey, Antonio.”

“Hey, Will…” He then gave Sam a hug. “Welcome back, you two.” There was something different about him, as his eyes seemed a little greener and his red hair was a bit more vibrant. “Hehe, don’t worry about the rent, Kyu took care of it.”

“Sam, did we pay the rent right before we left in September?” Will asked his girlfriend, who had an ‘oh shoot’ look on her face.

“Guys, again, Kyu took care of,” Antonio reminded them. “Hey, where’s Buster and Randalph?”

“Buster was doing something with Odo and Lia, I think…” Will started to say as he headed towards the stairs. “And Randalph was helping Tusk out with something again…”

“Where are you going, Boyo?” Morrigan wondered as Antonio took a seat next to her.

“To get my phone… might as well check the socials…”

Morrigan glanced at Kyu, who nodded. “Are you sure you want to do that, Boyo? You’re not in the best mood at the moment…”

“Aw, it’ll be fine,” Will handwaved as he started climbing the steps.

There was a brief moment of silence, broken by Orion. “I was taking peaks at it while he was gone. Thankfully all of those censorship and verification laws Hector Fang tried to pass are getting struck down, but Dad’s definitely got some wise guys heckling him…”

Antonio sighed with a chuckle as he leaned in with his arms on the table, the hard wood creaking ever so slightly. “I am so glad I ditched that stuff… So yeah, I’ve been talking to mom and Gabriella, and they think I should be rolling around as my true self…”

Morrigan knew she had sensed that thing that was different about him, and her eyes glowed purple for a moment, allowing her to see a giant, black and magenta spider in the room with them. “Oh, well damn, Antonio. Do you think you can handle it?”

“Yeah, I should be fine,” he said as put his hands together, then pulled them apart, revealing strands of glistening spider silk between them. “Heh, you and Will ever want to get stuck in a web, just let me know…”

“Antonio, not in front of Orion!” she playfully chided. Kyu shook his head in agreement.

“Mom, I’m…” Orion paused, forgetting where he was dimensionally. “8D? No, 9D! It’s not that big of a deal what you guys do…”

“Yes, but you’re still a kid in our books,” she asserted.

“What about kids and books?” Will asked as he reentered the room, swiping past things on his phone.

“Erm, nothing, Will,” Morrgian replied with a chuckle. “So how’s it going…” Her speech trailed off into a mutter as she could see Will’s scowl growing. “Will, is everything okay?”

What Will saw on the social media feed of the main app he used was causing his blood to boil and adrenaline to start flowing. All of the petty and mundane things society had squabbled about came flooding back into his memory and he could feel adrenaline hit his veins as he went through posts attacking him, and posts that meant well, but were way too critical for their own good. It was not that Will could not take criticism, rather it was that he deemed a lot of the issues Earth went through that were not related to The Eternal Order and The Extinction Order petty in comparison to the things he had experienced during his past four months in The Unlight. With his nostrils flaring in anger, he went outside and chucked his phone into the sky with a throw strengthened by his ULTRAMagic.

“GRA NEZ!” He barked as a void door appeared before him, with him entering and slamming the door behind him.

“Oh jeez, his phone!” Antonio cried. “Sam!?”

“Hold on, I…” Morrigan panicked, trying to figure out a spell to retrieve it.

“No need,” A handsome, yet awkward man with slightly messy, violet-maroon hair and red eyes said as he leaned against the doorway. With a smooth motion of his hands he produced the phone and set it down on the media stand beside him, next to the television.

Antonio was baffled by this man’s sudden appearance, and it did not help that he had no idea what kind of military uniform he was wearing. “Who are…?”

He was cut off when the man started holding out fingers and quietly counted down. “3…2…1…”

“Will, you can’t run from your issues like that…” Blood-Wraith said as he escorted Will back into the house through his own void door. “I know Earth is annoying, but you’ve got responsibilities here.”

“I already miss The Unlight, Blood…” Will moaned.

Blood-Wraith smiled sympathetically. “Sometimes I wonder if you were actually meant to live in The Iron City with me, Drago, and the others… Look, Will, go see your commanding officer, and then we’ll hang out. Sounds good?”

Will took a quiet breath and let out a sigh. He could not say no to Blood-Wraith. “Alright…”

“Good man, Will,” the officer complimented.

Will glanced over, then noticed his phone on the stand. “Mads…” He was not pleased to see that infernal device back.

“Hey, these things are expensive, Will. Weren’t you paranoid about this stuff before joining our fight?”

Will grumbled. “Yeah…” he then looked around and saw how confused everyone was and clapped. “Right. Guys, this is Specialist Mads Sagan, The Undead God. He’s my void patron. Mads, this is Antonio, Kyu, and Orion…”

He shook hands with each of them. “A pleasure to meet you all, and I work with Brigadier General Dryden, so you should be seeing me more often.”

“Oh, okay then…” Antonio was still weirded out, as he could not place what Mads was.

“Yeah, I’ve heard of you…” Kyu started to say. “Hold up! You’re a god?!”

“Indeed I am,” Mads replied with a smile.

Orion stared at him like he was looking at a nightmare given shape, but one that was there to help them. “No offense, but you’re weird… very weird.”

Mads shook his head, taking it in stride. “I wouldn’t have it any other way. And I’ve heard about you, Orion. You picked a very good couple to get adopted by.”

“Mads…” Will said with an awkward smile on his face, clearly a little embarrassed. “Kyu, Antonio?” Will indicated for Blood-Wraith to step over. “This is the man–the myth–the legend, Sir Blood-Wraith Raynot.”

Now Blood-Wraith shook his head. “Haha, Will… Ahem, nice to meet you two. Will and the others have said a lot about you.”

“Likewise,” Antonio replied as he shook his hand. “Mom and my sister have also talked about you.”

“A pleasure to meet you, Blood-Wraith,” Kyu said when he shook hands. “Hopefully Will didn’t cause you too much trouble?”

    “HEY,” Will cut in.

Blood-Wraith gave a hearty laugh. “So it wasn’t just us that had to deal with your antics? Ha!” Will softly growled, but it gave way to a laugh with the others joining in.

“You should have seen it whenever he got home from his Liger Brigade missions,” Kyu clarified.

“Okay, what’s going on here?” A boy’s voice called out from somewhere. “What’s with all the ruckus?” The group looked down to see the blonde-haired boy in question climbing up through the floor, like he was emerging from a hole via a ladder. He paused when he saw all of the entities around him, utterly baffled. “Geez, Sam, Will… just what were you guys up to last month?” the ghost questioned.
