Antares Briggs was sitting at his mildly messy desk, grumbling about the paperwork he had to fill out, going back and forth between his work, the computer, and his tea. Being rapidly promoted to Lt. Colonel following what came after The Red River City Incident had its perks, but he did not foresee all of the busyness that would come along with it… Leaning back in his chair to rest his mind for a second, he sipped his herbal tea and looked around his office. It was spacious, but not terribly big, sharing the mildly utilitarian, yet futuristic aesthetic of Camelot. The Frutiger Aero-inspired decor was always pleasing to the eyes, reminding him and Will of simpler times. Glancing at the futuristic monitor with its, bright, curved OLED display detailing the forms he still needed to fill out, he leaned back in with a sigh. And then his office phone went off…

“Lt. Colonel, you have a call on line 2…” a woman’s voice said over the receiver’s speaker.

Antares scratched his mauve hair, picked up the phone with another sigh, cleared his throat, and pressed the silver two button. “Briggs speaking… Hey, Marc… No, I don’t know where the private is at the moment. Apparently Beckenbauer picked him up, but you know how it is with Will–we actually need to see him to confirm he’s around, haha… The Commercialverse? What about it? Things have been quiet outside of Virus X’s antics… So you actually found Animus? Marc, you know he has a strange obsession with Will… I see… The Crimson God? What is… Well jeez, Marc, look at you and GRENADIER going above and… No, no, I’m being absolutely serious… Well yeah, I’ll admit this stuff is out of my wheelhouse and…” Antares had to pause for a second as there was someone at his door. “Hold on, Marc–come on in!” He smiled when he saw just the person they were talking about. “Oh, speak of the devil–Marc, Will’s here. Will talk about this later…”

“Hey, Antares, long time no see,” Will said as his commanding officer put down the phone.

“Will, welcome back, buddy,” he replied as went over and gave him a hug. He then shook Morrigan’s hand. “Welcome to Camelot, Sam. I’m sure you’ve figured out the obvious with us asking you to come here today…”

She nodded with a subtle, awkward smile. “Erm, yeah, Zack mentioned it on the way here.”

“Here, take a seat, all of you,” Antares said as he indicated a couple of chairs and the small, burgundy couch. He then had a quick sip of tea once he sat back down at his desk. “So, Sam, I know you expressed an interest in joining M.A.I.G., but here’s the thing; I want you to join The Liger Brigade. While we may not deal with magic as much as M.A.I.G. does, we arguably deal with The Eternal Order and The Extinction Order more than the other G-Org’s in our circle…”

“Pardon me, Antares,” Morrigan interjected. She then leaned over to Will. “G-Org’s?”

“Government Organizations, short hand for the organizations we work with.”

Antares cleared his throat again. “Now obviously we’d be bringing you on as a special agent, but you’ll get a decent salary and you’ll get to go with Will on his missions. Plus we really want you as a member of the squad so you can be there for him…”

Morrigan could not help but smile as she glanced towards Will. “Well, if it’s for Will, then I don’t see why not…”

Antares also smiled as he clicked some things on his computer, holding up his index finger to indicate what he was doing. “Thank you, Sam, we promise you won’t regret it. You’ll be working alongside me, Will, Kyu, Adrien, Satsuki, Vladislav, Zack, Jackson, and Ryota–and you’ll be deployed alongside Will for anything relating to The Unlight, no two ways about it… Also no offense, but are you going to stay like that?” He was indicating her true form based on her purple eyes and hair.

“Oh, well…” Morrigan replied a little awkwardly, somewhat self-conscious given that the essence of her true self was most likely influencing the others somehow.

    “I mean, it’s fine, I just figured you’d like a moment to breathe and relax a little…”

She took that breath and focused for a second. “Hold on…” Morrigan then snapped her fingers. Her hair smoothly returned to its shiny brown color and her eyes faded back to their original color, with her armor turning into regular clothing. “There we go!”

Kyu stroked his chin for a second with a contemplative look on his face as he leaned on the arm of the couch. “Are you sure about that, Lt. Colonel? What if ACF-008 gets a little temperamental?”

That was a fair point that left Antares quiet for a second. “I’m… sure it will be fine. Besides, Sam isn’t fully a part of the Brigade yet and… Hum… So did anything go wrong getting here, Private?”

“Aside from Will and Sam dragging their heels and a cheeky fly by from you know who? Not a single issue,” Kyu answered with a chuckle.

“Excellent,” Antares said with a clap. “Now, Will, before we go see our… guest, I’ve got some elephants to address…”

Will gave a nervous chuckle. “I’m not in trouble, am I?”

“No, not at all…” Antares then rubbed his face and groaned. “Will… because of the shake up with The Red River City Incident… Well, um, we’re… we’re now officially a branch of The U.S. Military…”

“Oh…” Will sank in his chair a little bit. “How did that happen?”

“General Lundberg and Senator Ripper under recommendation from President Donovan. We still have our autonomy, and I will concede the extra funding has certainly helped. Sky Fortress Dorado getting off the ground was made easier by this…”

“OH, okay, yeah, now it all makes sense…”

Sam was a little confused by that statement, wanting to know more. “What do you mean, Boyo?”

“It wasn’t the criminals, It was the lack of funds,” he answered with a laugh. “We weren’t broke, but getting an entire Sky Fortress off the ground isn’t cheap, even with the technology we’re sporting.”

“Yeah, I noticed that when we got here, the technology I mean…” Sam said with a nod as she looked around.

Needing a moment to brag about Camelot, Antares smiled with a proud look on his face. “Camelot, where we are now, actually exists in its own pocket realm,” he commented. “The ship is the door between Earth and here, but far be it from me to fully understand how it works…”

“But what if Camelot is damaged? You know, the ship outside, because I know about what happened with The ULTRAMagic Guild back when Valerie first tested the guild’s mettle, mm-hmm.”

Antares paused to think about that. “Well, um, while the inner fortress would be fine, it’s probably for the best that doesn’t happen, you know what I mean? Ahem, anyways–don’t worry, Will. Everything will be fine going forward as Abel is working to make sure he stays in power for the foreseeable future…”

Will felt the uncontrollable urge to laugh at that one. “I’m sorry, what? Isn’t that against the rules? I thought presidents only got two terms”

“Well given that Hector Fang cheated his way into office and was working with Sebastian, I think we also get to bend the rules a little,” Kyu asserted.

“Exactly, Private,” Antares said as he snapped his fingers. “It’s been utter chaos this past month, Will. I mean look at me! I got promoted all the way to Lt. Colonel and Aalders would have had me straight to Colonel, but Lundberg said he wanted a little more experience under my belt before that.”

It was a lot to take in, but Will sat up and nodded. “Alright then, but Senator Ripper still makes me a little nervous…”

“I hear you, Will, but he has been very helpful in securing us funding and support, so there’s that. Ahem, elephant number 2! Will, as you’ve no doubt heard, I am now Lt. Colonel Briggs and Aalders has been promoted to General. Other than that and the obvious, not much has changed.”

“And um, my promotion?” Will awkwardly asked with a chuckle.

“Would you stay put for two seconds so we can actually give you your honors and awards?!” Antares’ bluntness made the three laugh. “Yes, you are getting promoted to Specialist, even if we have to drag you in from The Unlight! Now, elephant number 3… and this just came up, but… um, we’ve tracked down Animus…”

Will seemed pretty nervous, looking over his shoulder. “What about him?”

“I’m not too sure yet, but he and Anker are… Will, do you know anything about The Crimson God?”

He exhaled and looked at Sam who nodded. “Yeah? Sam… Sam apparently crossed paths with him back when she was… unknowingly working with Karnage, and Nosmirc from the Dark Divers Guild has also dealt with him. Apparently he’s an infamous member of The Eternal Order. Sanguine, the one Sam and I fought back in September, is his son.”

Antares nodded, making a note of what Will had learned. “Apparently those two, Animus and Anker, and some others, think you know The Crimson God for some reason, and we have no idea why yet.”

Sam could definitely feel a tinge of anxiety in her chest. She thought she would get a break from her past by returning to Earth, but evidently not. “Um, who are Anker and Animus?”

“Bounty hunters Will has crossed paths with in the past,” Antares replied. “Animus in particular is a bit on the strange side, with powers we don’t quite understand yet. We’re not even sure if he’s from this reality. Don’t worry about it now, we’re safe here.” Antares then pressed a button on the answering machine. “Bran, get ready, I’m bringing Will down to look at 008…”

“Will’s here?!” Bran’s voice replied. “HEYA, WILL!”

“Bran, the line isn’t for casual chatter…” Antares reminded him with a slight groan.

“Oopsie, sorry, Lt. Colonel, sir!” The machine then went quiet.

Antares paused for a second, then chuckled. “So, Will word through the grapevine is that you met some unique Shadow Constructs while in The Unlight?”

“Yup, Audamar and Gaine.” He then got up as Antares got up, cuing the others to also stand up.

“Well we think you may be able to us out with 008 then,” he elaborated as he guided the three out of his office, the sliding, automatic door gently shutting behind them. “Ryota has actually worked with this anomaly before, so I feel you should take a look at it.”

“Alright then, I mean if you think I can help,” Will agreed with a hint of nervousness.

As the four made their way down the sleek, bright halls lined with indigo stripes, Will received more greetings from his fellow Liger Brigade officers and employees, all happy to see him back home. Sam could see that he, despite his reservations about being a soldier, had made himself right at home on Camelot. It was endearing to see him engage with the others like a regular, and it reassured Sam that he was in good hands regardless if she was there or not. Still, she needed to join one of the organizations to be there for him, and it looked like it was going to be the Liger Brigade. She was not sure how Ellen was going to react, but it would probably be fine. As they entered a lobby to head towards Wing X, Will felt a chill run down his spine, followed by someone invisible sneaking up behind him.

“BOO!” a girl’s voice cried with mischievous glee.

“ARGH, WHAT THE HELL!?” Will exclaimed as he bounced into Sam’s arms. They laughed once they saw the brown-haired, teen girl in a black shirt and blue jeans appear. “Bethany!”

She cackled in joy, happy to see her friends. “Hey, Will, Sam! Good to see you again. Jeez, Will, thought you’d see me coming with your ULTRAMagic and whatnot…”

“Hey, Bethany… hey, did you grow while we were gone?”

“Yup, I guess I did,” she said as she leaned on a chair with her hand. “I’ve also been hanging out with Olivia and her friends.”

“That’s so awesome, Bethany,” Sam complimented.

“Bethany?” a familiar voice called out. “Oh, there you are…” Olivia said as she came around the corner with her clipboard in hand. She was surprised by who she saw talking to her. “Sam, Will! Welcome back!”

“Hey, Olivia,” Sam said with a hug. “Welp, looks like I’m joining The Liger Brigade.”

Olivia was speechless and turned to Antares. “Wow… is she… is she going to join your squad?”

“That’s the plan, coz,” he answered with a subtle hint of pride and relief. “Oh, Will, Sam–Olivia’s been getting pretty good with her weave magic.”

“Oh?” Sam said with curiosity. “Do tell…”

Olivia nodded. “Yes, I’ve been basing my spells on you and Will’s spells and… here, let me show you…” She then set her clipboard on the floor and focused for a second. Holding out her hand, the board gently hovered up to her, albeit she needed to grab it before it fell. She then snapped her fingers and conjured a small flame with her thumb like a lighter that she immediately blew out. All of it warranted applause from Sam and Will.

“Not bad, Olivia, not bad at all,” said Will. “Of course you need to be careful with pyromancy, as me and Faustus have definitely run into a few issues here and there.”

“And was that my star magic?” Sam inquired with a giggle. “Who said you couldn’t keep up with us?”

“Thanks,” Olivia said, subtly blushing. “Will Buster be coming back soon?”

“Absolutely,” Will answered with a nod. “He’s just running some errands with Lia and Odo.”

Bethany then cleared her throat, having a happy, yet slightly impatient look on her face. “Did you guys see Valentin while you were in The Unlight? He’s been missing all month.”

Will took a second to think about it, curious yet worried once he came to his conclusion. “Uh, no, actually. Um… Sam, did you see him when I was in the past with Ludwig and Rostislav? I know he's not officially a part of the guild, but Sylvia’s domain isn’t hard to reach from the Central Unlight…”

For some reason Sam had the oddest feeling as a memory of Waramunt of all people popped into her head, confusing her to no end. “Um, me neither… although I wonder…” The last part she muttered.

Bethany frowned a little and groaned. “Leave it to Uncle Val to be secretive like that…” she then sighed. “Well things have been going great here. Been talking to Kyu as of late…”

Kyu grumbled and tapped his foot. “You mean you’ve been scaring me and standing outside my window half the time…” This made the others chuckle and quietly laugh.

“Oh come on, what’s a little prank or two between friends?” She said as she put her arm around his shoulders.

Kyu shook his head with a chuckle. “Well, the halloween party was pretty fun…”

“Haha, there you go! Anyways, I got some magic practice I got to do. See you all later, and let me know when Valentin finally shows up…” Bethany said as she and Olivia began to walk off, with her pausing briefly. “Actually I’ll probably sense it if he shows up here.”

Sam smiled as the two vanished around the corner. “She’s clearly doing a lot better. Did she get to spend time with The Devil’s Brew Coven?”

“Yeah; in fact Aelia and Galina have been giving her magic lessons here,” Antares answered with a subtle, familial happiness in his voice. “Speaking of people learning magic, Jackson has been making progress with his partner devil…”

“Really now?” Will was intrigued by this, wanting to know more.

“Mm-hmm, in fact he should still be here, so we should run into him…”
