Gazing into The Ogdoad, Blood-Wraith could not help but notice how distinctly different it was from The Ennead. It was incredibly liminal, resembling a fathomless series of ravines covered in lush flora that emptied into one giant hole, with countless waterfalls flowing down the rocks into the shining nothingness. The jump was certainly inviting, like one would be in a peaceful free fall as they descended back into the Sphere of Man. Strangely there was no one else present to jump into The Ogdoad, which Blood-Wraith wondered about. Surely someone else had to have been diving with him that day, aside from Damien. And despite the comfort that he felt looking into the tranquil realm, there was an undercurrent of dread and anxiety in Blood-Wraith. To say it was like the calm before the storm was accurate.
Blood-Wraith leaned on one of the great stone columns leading up to the threshold with his hand and took a breath to ready himself. “And I thought the anxiety before the final battle with The Lich was bad… I’d rather fight him ten times over right now.”
“Indeed, Blood-Wraith,” Hermes reassured him. “It is certainly quite the task to descend back into the Cosmos proper, especially after experiencing the splendor of The Ennead. A great battle requires your wit and might, however. Your friends, family, The Iron City, and The Cosmos do not stand a chance without you…”
“Pardon me, Trismegistus, but is that supposed to make me feel better or make me worry even more?”
The others laughed, with Hermes taking it in stride. “Only you have that answer, Sir Blood-Wraith Raynot. And like it or not, destiny awaits you just down the way. You cannot run from it nor can you hide from it, and Karnage will just come here eventually, so it is best to deal with him while you still can do it with ease…”
“You know? We could easily take him out here, but at what cost?”
“Precisesly, and the power to deal with him is waiting for you just past yonder…” Hermes pointed to a glowing constellation that Blood-Wraith knew all too well.
The boy felt warm, like his fire was coming back, but also realized the elephant in the room. “Hold on, does this mean Leif’s constellation will vanish from the night sky?”
“It would appear so, Blood,” Anti admitted.
“And… will I be able to handle that much power?”
Anton laughed, with there being clear sympathy in his voice. “Well you can’t do much worse than I did when I was a young god, and furthermore no worse when I was fighting with ENCOM.”
“My advice, Blood?” Anti put in. “Don’t overthink it. You’ll be more perceptive to a lot of things you had no idea were there in the first place, and my golden rule has always been ‘if ain’t broke, don’t fix it.’ And when in doubt, don’t touch it.”
“Don’t worry, Blood, I’ll be around whenever you need me if you require any help,” The Madman reassured him. “Don’t be afraid to ask if you’re lost on something.”
“Well that definitely helps,” Blood-Wraith stated as he turned to Damien, who was gazing into The Ogdoad. “Ready to go, Damien?”
He stood up and nodded, exhaling before he spoke. “Yup, as ready as I’ll ever be… goodness, it’s so deep…”
“Well it’s because you’re staring into the Sphere of Man itself, my boy,” The Madman pointed out.
“Blood, before you go,” Anton cut in before Blood-Wraith got ready to jump. “Given what I’ve told you about my side of the story, just know that I don’t truly hate Sepulcher. He betrayed me, but at the end of the day I just want my friend back. The Epoch was a hectic time and I wish I knew what I know now back then…”
Blood-Wraith gave a gentle sigh, thinking back to when he was traveling around with Leif, pursuing The Lich of Old. “He’s lost and confused, isn’t he?”
“As am I, Blood-Wraith. We can guide him back to the Light, but it will be a long and grueling task. For now focus on foiling his plans rather than vanquishing him.”
A tear nearly ran down Blood-Wraith’s cheek as his flames began to slowly reignite, and he went over and gave Anton a hug. “Don’t worry, I’ll do my best, Tyrant God.”
“That’s all I could ever ask for,” he said as he patted him on the shoulder one last time. He then stood up, cleared his throat, and turned to The Vermilion King. “Now, son, I believe you, Ozymandias, and Tereza are needed back at The Tyrant War.”
The Vermillion King nodded and snapped his fingers, causing an orange portal to appear. “Indeed, as Valentina, Cyrillus, and Orgunn have no doubt made their way to the battlefield.”
“I hope everyone’s okay…” Tereza wished as she followed Ozymandias.
“We’ll just have to combat whatever Karnage threw at them regardless, my dear,” Ozymandias noted, but paused right before entering the portal. “Oh, Blood-Wraith? Leif was very proud of you. Your bravery against The Lich of Old was second-to-none, and he’s glad he chose you as his successor,” he said as the three vanished into the portal with it closing behind them in a flurry of sparks and embers. Blood-Wraith smiled and quietly thanked Leif following that.
The Madman also cleared his throat and summoned his own portal of dust and light. “Hermes, I’m going to need your help with something real quickly before we join the others in The Unlight…”
“Of course, Madman, and I cannot wait to see my brothers again… here’s hoping that Karnage did not get the best of them,” Hermes said with a nervous chuckle.
“Oh, Blood? If you see my daughter before I do, tell her I am going to do my best to be there for her more often…”
Blood-Wraith seemed a little confused by that, the sentiment echoed in Damien’s expression. “Wait, Madman, you have a daughter?”
“Yes-Mal,” he said with a chuckle. “If you ever wanted to know why she was all alone so long ago, blame Karnage for keeping me from seeing her. Here’s hoping she’s not too mad at me.”
Blood-Wraith smiled and nodded. “Sure thing, Madman,” he said as the two primordials vanished into their portal.
“Damien?” The Virus God said, feeling a little bad for holding everything up. “Perhaps consider a career in studying computer technology, and maybe alchemy on the side. I think if you can pull it off, you’ll find yourself with the ULTRAMagic Guild in no time at all, perhaps even as ULTRAMagic Xenon…”
Anton nodded in agreement. “Certainly, as that feels like an excellent title to go along with such a path in life.”
Damien's eyes lit up as he turned to Blood-Wraith. “Wait, can I?”
“I don’t see why not,” he answered with a shrug. “You know where to find us.”
“Thank you, Blood!” he said with a firm handshake and a hug. “Sorry to just run on you all like this, but see you guys later! I’ve got to get learning and training!” Damien called out as he leapt into The Ogdoad, never to be seen again as Damien Ackerley.
Blood-Wraith was stunned by how sudden that was, but composed himself and approached the precipice. “Well I guess it’s my turn now. See you later, Anton, Virus, Lord Anti. And don’t be strangers!”
With his final round of farewells, Blood-Wraith jumped and felt the rush of air hit his face. Despite the encroaching confrontation he had to deal with, the wind felt nice and served to relax him. His flames were really lighting up as he was engulfed in a ball of fire, making him look like a comet as he descended further and further into The Ogdoad. The beauty of the caves and falls seemed to stretch on forever, but there was no doubt he was nearing the Sphere of Man. As the brilliant light of the lower Cosmos got closer and closer, Blood-Wraith noticed a familiar, shadowy black dragon begin to fly with him.
“Tyrant, is that you?!”
“Hey kid, long time no see! Thought I was gone for good, didn’t you?”
“Haha… um, hey, can I call you Leif going forward? It’s just that I met the actual Tyrant God and… hey, wait a second-did Leif name you after him?”
“Yeah, as my other half had mixed feelings about the whole fight between The Madman and The Tyrant God at the time. And sure, Blood.”
Blood-Wraith then realized the obvious as they got closer to the constellation. “Oh, wait, this is your final goodbye, isn’t it?” he wondered with a nervous chuckle.
“Parting is such sweet sorrow, kiddo,” Tyrant conceded. “As much as I don’t want to go, my mission is done…”
“And what was that?”
“To keep you safe and comfortable until the time for you to inherit all of my power arrives. I wish you didn’t have to die for it to happen, but it is what it is…”
“Hey, you’ll be with me forever going forward, so is it really a bad thing?”
Tyrant smiled as he began to fade. “You know what, you’re right, Blood. Just be careful with my might next time. That beatdown you gave Karnage was something else, and the scars were the cherry on top, but you could easily lose control in the future if you let your emotions take over like that…”
Blood-Wraith chuckled again, feeling a little guilty. “Duly noted. And Leif? Thank you for everything that you’ve done, especially back in the Dark Void…”
“Don’t mention it, Blood-Wraith. Now let’s go show Karnage what for!”
Feeling truly alive again, Blood-Wraith tensed up and shot forward like a hero into the embrace of Leif’s constellation, with Tyrant causing the resulting maelstrom of energy to collapse into a great explosion that would have dwarfed the supernova of any star that could ever exist. At the apex of the Sphere of Man emerged a dragon with a black metal body engulfed in red flames, golden armor adorning its proud form. Feeling the power of light, love, and justice surge all throughout him, Blood-Wraith roared as loud as he could to let the Cosmos know that he and The Dragon of Old were back. After receiving a thunderous applause from the gods in the stars, Blood-Wraith looked around for where he needed to go next. One of the gods pointed him towards a vortex of chaotic energy and lightning, and Blood-Wraith went for it. It was overwhelming at first as he crossed the barrier of the strange realm, but soon things calmed down as he found himself in a great tunnel of energy clouds of unimaginable proportions.
“Alright, so this is the Warp Corridor? Hopefully this can get me back home quickly…” Blood-Wraith then noticed something approaching down the tunnel… a battleship? An aircraft carrier? A combination of both? Either way he had to check it out…
The warship in question was truly incredible, plated with black metal armor and filled with rainbow energy that surged all throughout it. Its flight saw it soaring through the corridor with great speed and haste, as it was running late and time was nearly out. Standing in the command center was the captain, the ghostly figure of a navy commander pulsing in the colors of the rainbow. He was watching the instruments and making sure they did not run into anything… until he noticed something flying towards them. “Number 1, what in tarnation is that?!” the captain exclaimed.
“It appears to be a dragon, Captain Dreadnaught.”
Everyone jumped a little when it landed on the deck with a thud. “Did Shaye and Tomek say anything about Karnage having a dragon?!”
One of the crewmates then spoke up, having realized something about the dragon as it turned into a man. “Wait a second, that was clearly an ar’ton!”
Dreadnaught was confused, but figured the best thing to do was go address their newest passenger. “Number 1, man the helm…” As he made his way down to the man with tidy brown hair and a goatee, adorned in black bodysuit that made him look like he was from a mage’s guild, Dreadnaught took a breath as the presence of the man was practically divine-like he was sent from God himself. “Howdy, stranger…” he nervously greeted.
The man was startled and looked a little guilty. “Oh hey, my apologies, I was just traveling through the corridor and saw you cruising on through. I’m Blood-Wraith, Blood-Wraith Raynot…”
Dreadnaught felt his blood chill as he shook hands with the man. “Blood… Sir Blood-Wraith Raynot? Thee Blood-Wraith Raynot? Pardon my saying, but aren’t you supposed to be dead?”
Blood-Wraith laughed in a triumphant tone. “I was dead, but now I’m back. What’s your name?”
Feeling somewhat like a giddy child meeting an idol, Dreadnaught straightened himself out and gave a respectful bow. “I am ULTRAMagic Dreadnaught, but you may call me Captain Dreadnaught…”
“Wait, are you the one Shaye and Ahhotep were talking about?” Blood-Wraith looked around, then looked down to his feet, his eyes glowing with an orange light. He had sensed something incredible and realized that the soul of Dreadnaught was in the warship itself. And not only that, but it was an immensely powerful gestalt entity whose strength was close to that of at least Schwarzes or The Colossus of Old. “Hold up, are you the entire ship?”
“Yes indeedy, Sir Raynot. The USS Romanicus went down in a blaze of glory in the second world war of Universe-17 against the Germans, and before passing on the souls of the crew each gave a fragment so that the ship could keep fighting. And after a roaring headache and some crazy adventures with Shaye, Ahhotep, and Tomek here we are now! The only issue is that I have no idea if I actually existed prior to the sinking of the Romanicus…”
Blood-Wraith chuckled and patted him on the shoulder. “Don’t fret about it, Aureolus and I were straight up yoinked from the primordial darkness ourselves. And welcome to the guild, Captain Dreadnaught.”
“I must say that it is truly an honor, Sir Raynot, and we won’t let you down.”
“That’s good to hear… um, do you have any idea what’s going on in The Unlight at the moment?”
Dreadnaught looked incredibly uneasy and pushed a button on his communicator. “Number 1, increase speed to maximum… I don’t know exactly what’s going on at the moment, but it doesn’t sound good. Tomek says Karnage is employing something called ‘shadow titans,’ and it sounds like The Colossus of Old has been called in specifically to deal with them…”
The warship speeding up caused the two to stumble a little and Blood-Wraith let out a puff of embers and smoke from his mouth. “That blasted Karnage,” he grunted. “Be ready to fight when we get to The Unlight, Captain…”
Hearing that from Blood-Wraith, especially for someone who had just come back to life and had not seen any aspect of The Tyrant War sent a chill up Dreadnaught’s spine. “Loud and clear, Sir Raynot…”
