The Requiem Cosmos

The Requiem Series and its discovery:

The Requiem Cosmos is a micro-Cosmos that manifests as an anomalous video game series that appears in the Inferno of multiple universes, The Unlight, and the Realm of Chaos. The Requiem Series is a predominantly third person occult looter-shooter series with eight games in total, with several of those games being spinoffs in different genres. The series is well received wherever it manifests, but its anomalous traits begin to manifest upon closer inspection. The developer and publisher, Death Lazarus, is a mystery outside of surface level knowledge, the games have 4th wall breaks that are too focused to be comedic writing, and individuals from the games have appeared in the Cosmos proper. Furthermore, the implications of the events within the games have potentially grave consequences for the Cosmos as a whole.

One of the biggest things to come out of the Requiem Series is a Bizarre God known as The Undead God. Bizarre Gods are a strange type of god that do not originate from God and/or the Cosmos as a whole. Often misclassified as Rogue Gods, Bizarre Gods have their own motives and goals that are usually not understood by those born of the Cosmos. The Undead God, originally born as Mads Sagan in the Requiem Cosmos, seems to be going around warning those who will listen of dangers to come while also providing knowledge of void magic to mages who are willing to learn. A great deal of information about the series has been provided by him and his friends and family that have left the Requiem Cosmos.

Where the series specifically appears aside from The Unlight and The Realm of Chaos are the Inferno’s of universes 23, 15, 17, 0X, 0Y, and 0Z. Universe 16 and 22 have also seen this series pop up, implying a connection between them and the 6 aforementioned universes. If the Requiem Series has shown up elsewhere, it has yet to be identified. Some surprising sources of research into the series are The Grass God, The Screaming God, and The Grave God, a trio of Demigods who have befriended Mads. They were the ones to lead the charge into researching the micro-Cosmos that exists within the Requiem Series. Another source of information is the water Ar’ton Tereza, but her circumstances were a bit more involved than most.

What is the series as a whole about? The Requiem Series is about the struggles of Universe-XT49 and how the Earth of that universe is dealing with being in the vicinity of a dying Rogue God. Known as The Reverse Serpent, its “death” has led to the spread of The Plague of Undeath, causing zombies that are fairly powerful and strange to appear and invade. They worship imaginary deities, which come into existence through collective belief, further complicating matters. Known as Unreal Gods, these “deities” can be either benevolent or malevolent, but usually end up as the latter. It is up to humanity to make their last stand against these forces of chaos, or be wiped out and forgotten.

The discovery of the anomaly surrounding the Requiem Series can be attributed to the Ar’ton, as Tereza had been banished to the Requiem Cosmos. She had been discovered working with The Running God (a rogue god in league with the infamous Sepulchure God), being sentenced to be a warden for The Reverse Serpent by the Ar’ton Lord, Lord Ultra, Master of Tachyons. At some point the Ar’ton Chronicler of Darkness, Terrus, discovered Apocalypse Conquest Requiem of which Tereza appeared to reside. He was shocked that such an event transpired, but was also curious to know why. Terrus is seen as another source of research on the series.

Unsure what to do with Tereza as Lord Ultra abhorred the idea of executing his kin, The Madman of Old suggested the idea of sending Tereza to the Requiem Cosmos. The Madman had discovered the metaphysical bleed alongside his apprentice, The Automaton of Old. The anomaly had them panicking as the origin of The Reverse Serpent was unknown, although The Automaton speculated that it was possible that the serpent came from a universe at an unimaginable IGL level (IGL being Iteration Generation Loss, a means of quantifying how many Big Bang Cycles a universe has gone through). Letting The Reverse Serpent out into the Cosmos proper was a recipe for disaster, so they went looking for wardens and Tereza just so happened to be available.

Tereza’s presence appeared to solidify the Requiem Cosmos as a prison for the Reverse Serpent. At the end of her sentence and after making sure everything was locked down, Tereza went to Lord Ultra to ask for forgiveness. She was incredibly worried given that she could not actually truly lock everything down and there had been multiple mistakes on her part, but Lord Ultra was merciful and let her go. Tereza’s presence had the unintended consequence of making aspects of the Requiem Cosmos aware of the Cosmos proper. The meddling may have actually weakened the effectiveness of the prison.

What is the Reverse Serpent?

Researching the Reverse Serpent is incredibly difficult, but Tereza was able to come up with some conclusions:
  • The Reverse Serpent has no definitive origin at the moment. Even Father Time has had trouble pinning down where it came from.
  • The Reverse Serpent creates to destroy, in opposition to the Ouroboros who destroys to create. This process of the serpent results in things coming into existence from nothing. According to Tereza, it is all very hard to explain and even her explanations miss a lot of the nuances of the process.
  • If the Serpent has any ties to the Cosmos proper, two candidates are The Sepulchure God and The God of Reverse Chaos. The former lines up with the serpent’s nature which puts it in opposition to God while the latter hails from an IGL universe and is remarkably similar to the serpent.
  • The biggest roadblock in researching The Reverse Serpent is that it is seemingly impossible to communicate with. Its method of communication is completely alien to even the Ar’ton. And given that this alien method is also in reverse for some reason, Tereza has had to rely on the serpent’s actions to glean any meaningful information on it.
  • The gods that the undead bring into existence are known as The Unreal Gods and are the driving force behind the chaos of The Reverse Serpent in the corporeal realm, even if the serpent never seems to actually acknowledge them.
  • Typically the serpent manifests as a snake eating its own tail in reverse. It also appears inside out and exists at the edge of the world. Only higher dimensionals can enter this realm as trying to travel to it in the lower dimensions is seemingly impossible.
