Necropolis Requiem

Genre: Third person RPG occult looter shooter
Rating: Mature audiences
Releases: Inquisitor Edition
DLC: Frontier Chronicles (NR:IE)
Acronym: NR
Synopsis:

Take the fight to the underground!

Time has passed and ENCOM has been able to get the Undead under control, allowing humanity to recover. Of course that will not stop General Bloodthresher, as his forces disturbed The Ashen Necropolis and the Deep Undead living peacefully in The Ashen Mine Network. With the tribes rallying in response to this threat, it is up to ENCOM to enter the mysterious underground and confront Anton before he claims the vast bounty of the mines.
  • Explore the expansive underground and recruit tribes of Deep Undead to fight back Anton Bloodhtresher and his armies.
  • With 2 new classes and 4 new elements, unleash havoc and destruction on the Undead like never before!
  • Play through the game solo or connect with your friends and experience the co-op story mode. Both offer unique experiences.

Necropolis Requiem takes place after a 5 year time skip from ACR II: Lost Records. Humanity is adjusting to the Undead Plague and getting it under control, only for Anton to return with two new Unreal Gods under his command. His reappearance puts ENCOM on the ropes once again, but this changes when a great cave opens up and reveals The Ashen Necropolis. Its ruler, The Onyx Maiden, provides ENCOM help with fighting back against Anton and his forces.

The Onyx Maiden is an Unreal God who arose back in ACR, but remained quiet and unknown. Ideally she wanted her city to go undiscovered so she could sleep and ponder the Cosmos, but this was ruined when Dithin-Akkaharr intruded into her realm, provoking her ire. When she woke up, The Onyx Maiden was a little baffled by the state of Earth, as she was surprised that humanity managed to get a foothold on the Undead Plague. Secondly she noticed the presence of the water Ar’ton, Tereza. Despite being confused by the very nature of the outsider in question, the maiden quickly became friends with Tereza, with the two learning a great deal about each other (and Tereza obviously learning a great deal more about the Requiem Cosmos).

Working together with Brigadier General Dryden, The Onyx Maiden introduced four new elements and 2 new classes to ENCOM. The new elements included:
  • Obsidian, which enhances the durability of earth.
  • Ice, which increases the potential of water.
  • Plasma, which gives air great power.
  • Electricity, which allows fire to focus.
The new classes include:
  • Artificer, which focuses on transmutation and creating spells and tools.
  • Lycanthrope, which allows the player character to take on transformations.
The two new classes are fully compatible with the class variations from ACR II, and the new elements unlock new abilities for the original elements. These new additions to ENCOM’s arsenal allowed them to push back Anton’s forces and regain the advantage against the enemy Unreal Gods.

Necropolis Requiem is an open world game like ACR II, but focuses on the Ashen Mine Network. These tunnels and caves are full of valuable resources and artifacts that both ENCOM and Anton are after. Both sides encounter the Deep Undead, which are underground variations of the standard undead. Notably smarter and more organized than their surface counterparts, they were living in peace until the surface world intruded on their domain. Fortunately the majority of Deep Undead tribes recognized that Anton was the problem and sided with ENCOM to get rid of him.

One of the biggest focuses of the Necropolis Requiem games is recruiting Deep Undead tribes. These tribes can either help or hinder the player, so it is highly ideal to engage with the system. Recruiting tribes was considered a divisive mechanic, but players grew to appreciate its subtle nuances and how the tribes reacted to ENCOM. This mechanic stays mostly the same over the games, receiving slight tweaks and adjustments as the Necropolis games went on.

Tribes are procedurally generated based on preset parameters, barring a handful of static tribes that are meant to help introduce the player to the idea of recruiting Deep Undead tribes. They are as follows:
  • The Rock Kings, Red Hammers, and Dusk Climbers. These tribes will always be loyal to ENCOM.
  • The Death Gnashers, Skull Drinkers, and the Blade Chargers. These tribes will always be loyal to Anton
  • The Mine Railers and Crystal Raiders. These tribes can go either way, with the Mine Railers being biased towards ENCOM and the Crystal Raiders being biased towards Anton.

Deep Undead tribes also typically fall into one of four categories (demonstrated by the following):
  • Brawlers: Rock Kings, Death Gnashers
  • Scholars: Dusk Climbers, Skull Drinkers
  • Craftsmen: Red Hammers, Blade Chargers
  • Explorers: Mine Railers, Crystal Raiders
The territories of these tribes can make things very interesting for the player. Depending on how the game is played, there can be wildly different experiences and story outcomes. Repeat playthroughs are highly encouraged.

In regards to the new Unreal Gods, Dithin-Akkaharr dies as the game begins. The fusion was unstable and led to his rapid deterioration. This left his power up for grabs and ENCOM was able to get to it first. Given that Mads was beginning to understand The Reverse Serpent at this point, he got to work creating his own Unreal God. Sadly it did not pan out, leading to him to create a boy named Isador Payton, who would become unstable and fall out of the Requiem Cosmos and end up on the Earth of Universe-23. If anything good came out of this aside from Isador’s birth, it at least prevented Anton from reclaiming Dithin-Akkaharr’s power for a new Unreal God of his own.

To compensate for this deficit, Anton found an undead cult that created two new gods for him: Thorogor and Senot-Drow. Thorogor was the god of rage while Senot-Drow was the god of questions. The two work together, albeit butting heads along the way. Despite Thorogor being annoyed by Senot-Drow’s nonstop questions, they work fantastically as a brain and brawn duo. Fans of the series also love them for their witty dialogue and comedic quips at each other.

In regards to Zistratorr, he is not present on account of learning about Anton’s previous life. Appalled by the cowardice of his former master, he planned to seek out Anton’s old enemies and join them out of spite. Ultonn and Syllsonna are still serving Anton, but it is clear that they are growing weary of the war against ENCOM. Their dialogue in Necropolis Requiem and Necropolis Requiem Tactics hint at them planning to leave Anton behind and start a family. The two even go so far as to secretly tip off ENCOM to some of Anton’s plans.

The final mission involves Mads, Meinhert, and Tatiana leading an assault on Anton’s fortress to secure an artifact Mads is after known as The Screaming Amulet, and to finally drive Anton out of the underground. The artifact in question was recommended to Mads by Tereza as she had a hunch it could awaken his true potential. The mission is long and difficult, but the game makes sure the player is ready beforehand. A minimum of 5 recruited tribes is required, the player must be a certain level, and they must have cleared all of the main story missions leading up to that point. The behaviour of the ally NPCs is of high quality throughout the game, but the last mission drastically improves them to help the player succeed. The mission ends with an intense and blood pumping boss fight with Anton.

Upon achieving victory, Mads delivers the finishing blow, forcing Anton to flee. ENCOM secures the underground and humanity is able to get a foothold on the undead once again. With the amulet in hand, Mads begins a new round of research, seeking to truly understand who he truly is. The Onyx Maiden also pledges her loyalty to ENCOM, with them having earned her respect and gratitude.

Beating the game also unlocks a super boss fight with The Maiden that many players say is legitimately worth the hassle. Her fight is an audio-visual masterpiece, with a truly amazing orchestral metal symphony as its background music. Defeating her unlocks the Onyx armor set and New Game ++, a special version of New Game + that provides a unique experience with remixed events and new challenges. This mode also has additional lore that while interesting and insightful, is not mandatory to understand the game’s story.

ACR Tournament Fighter II

Genre: Fighting game
Rating: Teenage audiences
Acronym: ACR:TF II
Synopsis:

The conqueror rises!

Istractendorr the Conqueror has emerged, seeking the power of The Singularity Sword! Looking to conquer the Out Realms, Ulrich Sagan has stepped up to stop him and secure the sword from the clutches of evil.
  • Take control of 25+ fighters with 15 new fighters in a quest to save the Out Realms from the desires of a mad conqueror!
  • An expanded combo system with new moves to leave your opponents reeling!
  • All new, expansive locations and exciting stories! Explore the world of ACR like never before!
  • Revisit the past and learn new secrets with the all new hall of memories mode.

Surprisingly ACR:TF received an unexpected sequel. This game builds upon the first, adding new mechanics, lore, and characters while continuing the story of the series with a side adventure. Meinhert has taken on a new identity, Ulrich Sagan, and plans to leave the Requiem Cosmos. He had been talking with Mads about this throughout Necropolis Requiem, with the two in agreement that it was time to finally start leaving the Requiem Cosmos. Ulrich serves as the main character, responding to the challenge set by a new Unreal God, Istractendorr the Conqueror. While it is unclear if he was created by Anton or ever allied with him, Istractendorr and his commanders set out to acquire The Singularity Sword so that they could conquer the Out Realms and leave the Requiem Cosmos.

Seeing this as a perfect opportunity to leave himself, Ulrich leads the battle for the sword. Clashing all over Earth, the final battle takes place at The Abyss of Yore. There are many outcomes, but only Ulrich’s is canon. Istractendorr and his commanders, Farrza and Ulsalthor, make one last attempt for the sword. To their surprise, the sword merges with Ulright, turning him into the Discordant God of Gravity. Istractendorr is vanquished once and for all, with Farrza and Ulsalthor fleeing. A cutscene after the credits reveals that they went straight to Anton to join him, who was observing the conflict the entire time.

Ulrich gains the ability to leave through The Out Realms and enter the Cosmos proper. Despite not wanting to leave his friends behind, he says goodbye to Mads and Tatiana. Mads promises that they will meet again some day and Tatiana tells him to not forget them. Regretfully Ulrich did forget the Requiem Cosmos for a time upon arriving in The Realm of Chaos. One day a strange bundle of video games appeared in his space station outside his quarters and he remembered exactly who he originally was. The scheming of a traitor amongst the ranks of the Discordant God of War also reminded him of Anton as it was reminiscent of his scheming. This led to Ulrich going all in on researching the Requiem Cosmos in the hopes of reuniting with his old friends, but fortunately one of them managed to get back into contact with him…

Necropolis Requiem Tactics

Genre: Tactical Real Time Stratergy
Rating: Mature audiences
Acronym: NRT
Synopsis:

The Inquisition challenges ENCOM!

While ENCOM had made great progress against the forces of General Anton Bloodthresher, not all were content with their achievements. The Inquisition has emerged, planning to end the conflict with Anton once and for all. And with trouble brewing in the underground once again, no thanks to Anton’s newest commanders, both organizations descend into the Ashem Mine Network once more to deal with the threat.
  • It’s the Requiem series like you have never seen it before! Take control of the forces of ENCOM and the Deep Undead and lead them against Anton and The Inquisition!
  • Customize your troops with weapons, upgrades, and cosmetics.
  • Play online or play with your friends in split screen mode and show them your prowess as you battle through the underground.

This is an RTS spin off that takes place a year after Necropolis Requiem and 6 months after ACR:TF II. A rival organization to ENCOM, The Inquisition, is challenging their authority and causing trouble for everyone involved. Farrza and Ulsalthor are also back as Anton’s newest commanders. Furthermore, Karl plans to leave the Requiem Cosmos out of concern for Isador and whatever the Cosmos proper is. Not wanting to leave ENCOM high and dry, Karl trains a successor in the form of Reynard Woodall. Reynard was an outsider claiming he messed up by defying God and was making up for his blunder. Curiously ENCOM was unsure of who God was, but pursued research on the subject regardless.

In regards to the game as an RTS, it is a standard, top down affair that focuses on managing armies and fortifying positions. It has the Requiem series flare and many praise it for being a breath of fresh air. It also gives the player a lot to work with in regards to units and armies. There is a great deal of freedom in the game and many appreciate this about it. Furthermore, there is a good amount of new lore and many callbacks to the previous games.

The main issue in the game’s story is that Ultonn and Syllsonna wish to join ENCOM. Farrza and Ulsalthor are after them and The Inquisition refuses to accept this turn of events. Karl welcomes the two with open arms, catching the ire of The Inquisition and parts of humanity, but stands his ground. Sending the defectors to the Ashen Necropolis, this reignites the conflict in the underground. While a little annoyed, The Onyx Maiden goes out of her way to protect Ultonn and Syllsonna, refusing to accept any nonsense from Anton or The Inquisition. As for Mads and Tatiana, they are mostly absent from the game, but can still be visited. They are knee deep in research about the Out Realms and how they can get to the Cosmos Proper.

Near the end of the game, The Inquisition realizes that they need to work together with ENCOM to stop Farrza and Ulsalthor, who have been playing them like a fiddle. ENCOM did not appreciate how uptight and elitist The Inquisition was and they did not take kindly to ENCOM’s ‘live and let be’ mentality, but The Onyx Maiden pointed out that Anton was the bigger threat no matter what. Reynard also speaks up stating that he has witnessed what happens when conflict drives a wedge between what should be close allies, referencing the three great mages of the Epoch.

The final battle sees the player take control of both ENCOM and The Inquisition to fend off the forces of Farrza and Ulsalthor once and for all, securing the safety of Ultonn and Syllsonna. Eternally grateful for ENCOM’s generosity, the two Unreal Gods give their full strength and support to them. Reynard was nervous throughout the conflict, but the victory gave him the confidence to man the helm. Karl takes his leave, making plans to venture out into The Frontier Lands in the hopes of finding a portal to The Out Realms, where he can further find a path to the Cosmos proper. Naturally this attracts the attention of Mads and Tatiana, who are very interested to see if he can pull the journey off.

Necropolis Requiem: Inquisitor Edition

Genre: Third person RPG occult looter shooter
Rating: Mature audiences
DLC: Frontier Chronicles
Acronym: NR:IE

Inquisitor Edition was an interesting rerelease of Necropolis Requiem that adds The Inquisition into the game amongst a myriad of quality of life changes and improvements to the game. The Inquisition was foreshadowed in the base game, but did not make an appearance. The most notable addition is that Inquisitor encounters will now occur throughout story mode and the player can play as an Inquisitor named Torvald Alfson in a unique story campaign. The encounters and Torvald’s campaign are not canon, but the lore they present is.

The Inquisition was a break off of ENCOM that wanted to take a proactive approach to the Undead Plague, more so than ENCOM. Under the leadership of Unreal God known as The Ebony Knight, The Inquisition got to work dealing with what the predecessors could not. While overbearing and a tad draconian at times, they were able to get a massive foothold on the undead in their own right. They were even able to foil one of Anton’s plans before the start of Necropolis Requiem. The Inquisition is a loose cannon (something they accuse ENCOM of being, funnily enough), but they have proved invaluable in the fight against Anton.

Inquisitor Edition also brought the Frontier Chronicles DLC. This expansion explores Karl looking for his exit from the Requiem Cosmos a year after the events of NRT. Having grown to respect Karl, Torvald accompanies him to The Out Realms. With a map from Mads, the player accompanies the two on Karl’s journey. Karl starts his search in The Frontier Lands, a place where reality is thin and regularly overlaps with The Out Realms, the true border of the Requiem Cosmos. Both realms also hold a wealth of unique and alien resources and artifacts.

Thorogor and Senot-drow show up to stop the three, with both sides clashing many times throughout The Frontier Lands and into The Out Realms. Upon making it to the portal Karl needs, the group has one last battle with the two Unreal Gods. Karl comes out on top in the end, with Thorogor and Senot-drow letting Karl and Torvald leave out of respect for their determination and strength. Karl gives the player a letter to give to Reynard and departs with Torvald, with the two never to be seen again.

Karl would end up in Universe-23 where he would become a Brigadier General in the U.S. army right before the War of 1812. After a rousing brouhaha with the red coats, Karl would keep his eyes open for Isador. Interestingly the Undead Plague persisted in him, giving a sort of immortality. He could still die, but he no longer aged or became sick. And while he waited for Isador to show up, Karl began learning proper alchemy, even going so far as to create a Philosopher’s Stone. Notably the elixirs he created from it southed the madness that had been gnawing at him due to the plague.

In the early 1900s, Karl would finally find Isador as an orphan on the streets of New England and take him in. Upon cleaning the boy up, Karl entered him into the school system to get him an education as he was incredibly confused and lacked a great deal of knowledge from his past lives. Isador would eventually meet Professor Marcel Matheo Germaine, which would bring Karl to the attention of Marcel’s good friend, Abraham Van Helsing. Abraham would speak to Karl, taking a liking to him, and have him join The League on the spot. Since Isador really liked Professor Marcel, Karl accepted Abraham’s offer. Currently Karl is still a member of The League and considers it and its allies as a worthy successor to ENCOM.

As for Torvald, he was nowhere near as lucky. Somehow he ended up as a ghost human in Universe-17 (which would earn him a Type 4 Ghost classification by Liger Brigade standards). Lost and confused, he went around haunting people until he eventually met a demon named Serjiel. Being somewhat familiar with the Requiem Cosmos, Serjiel directed him towards the ULTRAMagic Guild in The Unlight. People from all over the Cosmos could be found there, so there was a good chance that he would find someone that could help him locate Brigadier General Dryden.

While initially looking for Karl, Torvald would take a liking to the guild and would train under David Livesey and Cronus, two skilled and noteworthy members of the ULTRAMagic Guild. Achieving ULTRAMagic was a massive step forward in Torvald’s life, but he still needed to find Karl to make sure he was alright. After hanging around the guild for a bit, he noticed that William of Universe-23 was talking about a certain general. Maybe they were the ones Torvald was looking for…

Grave Requiem Overkill

Genre: Third Person/First Person RPG Horror shooter
Rating: Adult audiences
Releases: Absolution Edition
DLC: Lost Galaxy
Acronym: GRO

Synopsis:

The end is nigh…

This is it, the final battle… or is it? Many have left the Requiem Cosmos, with Mads discovering who he truly is and is planning to leave himself. Anton has also awakened the memories of his past life and is plotting something truly strange that will change the fate of the Requiem Cosmos and beyond forever. ENCOM’s greatest fight has yet to begin, with Anton’s unknowable ambition being merely a prequel to the main event. And with the Reverse Serpent poised to discover the forbidden truth, it is anyone’s guess how the final battle for Earth will end.
  • There are many new weapons and spells to use to fight back the undead, but that is not really a concern now…
  • Discover the ultimate fate of Mads and Anton, for it will become important to you… and you do not even realize the true scope of it…
  • You can explore the new mobility system, offering an impeccable advantage against the Undead… but does it really matter anymore?
  • The seal is breaking… Tereza and The Madman tried their best, but It would appear I underestimated The Reverse Serpent. God, protect the Cosmos and your children, for I could not…

Following the release of NR:IE, the series went quiet for a while, which concerned the various Infernos that had access to the series. The game’s anomalous nature was beginning to set off alarms as deep dives into the games became more frequent. And given that individuals similar to certain characters were showing up in the Cosmos proper, the hunt for the next game was on. After five years of nerve racking waiting, Grave Requiem Overkill showed up out of nowhere. To say it caught everyone off guard would be an understatement.

GRO was truly bizarre as the cases for the physical discs were predominantly metal, with the cover art depicting a ruined ENCOM headquarters against a cloudy, black and white sky. The back cover was chaotic, with strange screenshots and details about the game that seemed to be hinting at something dire. Most alarmingly, aside from the other anomalous traits, was that the game was rated for adult audiences; the cited reasons were violence, use of alcohol/tobacco, suggestive themes, partial nudity, horror, and extreme terror. It was obvious that the game was nowhere near obscene, rather incredibly intense. Fans of the series were scared at first, but dove right in. What they found was mind boggling to say the least.

Taking place 5 years after NR:IE Frontier Chronicles, the game opens up with Mads talking to Tatiana with the player’s character standing by. Mads reveals that he has learned the truth: He was the first creation of The Reverse Serpent and became what was known as a Bizarre God. After hinting that he truly knows that he is in a video game, the Requiem Cosmos is just a prison for the serpent, and that he needs to get to The Out Realms, faint explosions can be heard. A hole is then blown in the wall, revealing that Anton is leading an all out attack on ENCOM headquarters. It is further revealed that he is after Mads under the implications that he wants to escape the Requiem Cosmos too. The trio then do their best to make their exit and help ENCOM evacuate.

The tutorial level begins with Reynard instructing the group to team up with Alpha-6 squadron to help finish packing up so they fall back to the Ashen Necropolis (lamenting the absence of Karl given the chaos occurring). The player goes around helping Antonius, Lady Mildburg, Ultonn, and Syllsonna as they teach the player how to play the game. If the player imports their character, the dialogue will reflect that and the tutorial will give the player more autonomy (potentially allowing them to learn new techniques in the process). Each section has a boss fight with Thorogor, Senot-drow, Farrza, and Ulsalthor, accompanied by dialogue from Anton that reveals that apparently the serpent is beckoning them to prove themselves and claim its power. The attack does not correlate with those goals, with Anton hinting at the true motives throughout.

After Mads goes toe to toe with Anton, ENCOM flees and heads to The Ashen Necropolis. Having had nightmares of the serpent, The Onyx Maiden moved her citadel to the surface to deal with the chaos of the serpent’s mania running rampant. Upon arriving, The Onyx Maiden explains to the player that the current chaos started 3 years prior when Zistratorr went rogue and began attacking Anton’s armies. Upon leaving through the Out Realms by his own means, Anton seemingly snapped. He was more focused, putting aside his feud with ENCOM to focus on bigger things. And given what Mads knew, it was suspected that Anton had fully remembered his past and wished to return to his home realm.

Reynard panics given what Mads reveals to everyone, as he knew all too well who Anton was before entering the Requiem Cosmos and declares that he needs to return to the Cosmos proper as soon as possible. Normally he and Mads would consult Tereza about such matters, but she had vanished by this point in the series. After calming Reynard down, The Onyx Maiden assures him that she will happily assume command of ENCOM when the time comes, recognizing Reynard’s plight.

The meeting is interrupted by Anton’s newest commander, Ultinn-lacksus. An arrogant Unreal God of an unclear nature, he was seemingly created from the remains of Istractendorr. After taunting the main cast, he unveils Anton’s newest creation, the Death Wraiths. These new undead that resembled humans crossed with grotesque dinosaurs were a gift to Anton from the serpent, alongside Ultinn-lacksus himself. Many players state that the Death Wraiths are incredibly unsettling, provoking uncanny valley responses that are hard to explain.

With help from the main cast, the player fends off the attack and forces the enemies to retreat. The story campaign then properly begins, with the player heading out to the first area out of 32. Contrary to the previous games, the levels of GRO play out in a linear fashion (there are hub areas to explore, however). The player is tasked with traveling to locations all over the Requiem Cosmos in order to deal with Anton’s armies. While space travel is out of the question at the moment, ENCOM perfected portal technology, allowing them to travel all across the universe and beyond. Some of the bizarre and truly alien realms include: Dark Star Station, The Grave Realm, Beyond Inferno, The Decaying Jungle, The Infernal Abyss (also known as The Fiery Abyss), The Inverted Singularity, and The Endless Factory.

GRO builds upon the groundwork of NR:IE, but lacks the faction system (the static deep undead tribes are working with their respective allies regardless). Oddly the game defaults to a first person perspective, but has the option to play in third person mode. The biggest addition to GRO is the new movement system. The player can parkour, leap, slide, vault, dash, and climb like never before. The levels and combat also take advantage of this system, with most players stating that this makes the game incredibly satisfying to play. The game also allows the player to switch to the movement systems of previous games as a means of adjusting to GRO.

In regards to combat, aside from the multitude of new weapons, the game introduces two new classes and elements. The new classes are:
  • Alchemist, a class focused on creating spells and consumables.
  • Jester, a chaotic class focused on chance and wager-based magic.
The two new elements are:
  • Joy, a special element that augments any earth or water based element/spell/weapon.
  • Fury, a special element that augments and fire or wind based element/spell/weapon.
The two unique elements are typically equipped via enchantment and offer various buffs and bonuses. Naturally these are also compatible with everything that came before. As for the origin of Joy and Fury, strangely Ultinn-lacksus gave them to ENCOM as a gift from The Reverse Serpent. This move greatly confused ENCOM and put them on alert.

A key aspect of GRO is the tone of the game. It is intense with a constant feeling of dread as the serpent writhes and twists in the unreachable horizon. Levels are desolate and forbidding, with enemies lurking in the shadows, waiting to strike. Some moments will be deathly silent outside of lifeless wind while other areas will be filled with inhuman screeching, shouting, and hollering. The Requiem Cosmos is in shambles with the end of the world seeping into every aspect of it. Nearly everyone has lost their minds, with the sane being few and far between. ENCOM remains stoic and grounded as always, serving as a beacon of hope for Earth, but even their resolve is being tested in this conflict.

The Death Wraith’s and their gruesome forms draw from dinosaurs such as Tyrannosaurus, Spinosaurus, Pterosaurs, Thyreophorans, Certopsia, Raptors, and various other theropods. They fit into the other classes of undead, but differ in that they are more cunning and do not need a commander to execute plans. These undead have done great harm to the sanity of humanity, and even affect the player character’s sanity if they are not dealt with quickly enough. Fortunately they are just like the original undead, being brought forth by superposition collapse, meaning they did not originate from Earth.

As for the undead, they have become horrific and twisted, reflecting the maddened state of The Reverse Serpent. Two new classes have popped up, being the Howler and Warlock. The Howler is a unit designed to summon hordes of undead to swarm the player while the Warlock is a tall, gaunt unit that uses chilling spells to disorient and confuse. Subclasses of Undead have also appeared, mixing the previous classes barring the new ones. The player will still fight bosses at the end of a level, but most no longer invade due to the technical limitations of the game. Reynard has revealed that every boss absolutely invaded the player character’s missions in real life, however.

Antonius has his usual super boss fight, but if the player defeats him and Mildburg, they can fight the two Unreal Gods at the same time. Ultonn and Syllsonna also follow suit with their own boss fights. As for The Onyx Maiden, she is too stressed out to fight, but will give the player her rewards if they beat both duo super boss fights. The last super boss is Mads, who uses his power as The Undead God in a terrifying, yet epic boss fight. Arguably the hardest boss fight in the entire series, the fight is fully doable and satisfying. Mads does not reward the player with anything, but unlocks New Game ++ and hidden lore entries detailing his status as The Undead God and how he came to discover he was first undead created by The Reverse Serpent.

Throughout the game the player will notice a boy named Camden, Anton’s second son. It is unclear how he came into existence, but what is clear is that Anton cares deeply for him and wants him out of the Requiem Cosmos and in better hands. The player gets to know Camden through a series of chance encounters and it is clear that Camden is scared because of the current state of the Requiem Cosmos. Notably Camden seems to be a unique type of Undead known as a Wanderer, with the ability to escape any confrontation.

The player is encouraged to befriend Camden, being rewarded with lore, hints, and small, yet helpful items. Notably Anton is absent from these encounters, but can be seen watching in the distance every time. It is clear he wants the player to befriend Camden, as strange as it seems. Of note was that Reynard was hinting at wanting to look after Camden, making sure he does not grow up to be like Anton. Camden is a kind, gentle boy who is fairly friendly despite the conflict between his father and ENCOM. Initially he was confused as to why everyone was fighting, but realized the truth upon rummaging through his father’s files while he was away one day. Camden felt bad for his father and wanted to be there for him, and was disappointed when he found out he wanted to send him away.

The final level has the player, Mads, and Tatiana confront Anton and his commanders in the realm of The Reverse Serpent. Anton finally reveals that he plans to leave the Requiem Cosmos with his commanders and Mads cheekily declares he is not going to let Anton go alone, leading to an intense, gauntlet style boss fight. At the end, Mads and Anton have one last clash ending in a brilliant flash of light, leaving behind the player, Tatiana, and Ultinn-lacksus. If the player has fully befriended Camden, an ending cutscene plays that shows what happened in the last moments of the fight.

Mads, Anton, and Camden end up in a white void with the Requiem Cosmos on one side and the Cosmos proper on the other. Anton confides in Mads that he was a wicked man unfit to be a father, so he tells Camden to find his older brother, Gummi, and stay with him. Camden becomes sad and cries, but ultimately accepts his father’s wishes. Mads also offers his help to Camden, earning Anton’s gratitude. Anton could not abandon the path he walked, but promises that Camden and Gummi will stay safe no matter what. Mads and Anton go their separate ways as the screen fades to white. The scene ends with Tatiana holding a locket with a picture of her and Mads, stating she will wait as long as it takes followed by a cut to credits.

This ending has confused and alarmed many people, sparking a manhunt for Anton. Camden was found in Universe-23, meaning that Anton had to have escaped. There were also concerns that The Reverse Serpent was fully aware of its prison, as it was alarmingly coherent during the final level. While the blame was initially placed on Tereza, the Ar’ton lord of positrons, Lord Anti, came to her defense. He pointed out that the infamous Sepulchure God was a more likely candidate. Given the Ar’ton lord’s violent past with the rogue god, it was only natural that Anti looked towards that as a possibility.

Regardless of the culprit, the Ar’ton, forbidden primordials, and the Time Watchers are on high alert. Earth-23 is of particular focus as that is where Anton originally came from. This goes doubly so given Camden’s presence there. The situation is delicate, as Camden is an innocent soul who got wrapped in the conflict between The Eternal Order and The ULTRAMagic Guild. Time will only tell how this new chapter of the conflict unfolds, and how Anton will react to the current state of The Eternal Order. Mads is of the mindset that Anton is not going to be pleased and will most likely gut the entire order.

Grave Requiem Overkill Absolution Edition brought bonus content, legacy content, and The Lost Galaxy DLC. Aside from new lore entries that hint at Anton regaining his memories as detailed by ENCOM, the focus is on Reynard leaving the Requiem Cosmos. ENCOM has finally perfected space travel a year after the events of GRO and Reynard plans to pilot the maiden voyage to Tereza’s abandoned galaxy (her home for her stay in the Requiem Cosmos). After handing ENCOM off to The Onyx Maiden and bidding everyone farewell, Reynard and the player depart for Tereza’s galaxy. Notably the cutscene in which the spaceship takes off is accompanied by a hopeful, uplifting orchestral rock song that causes most players to cry in joy when they watch the scene.

Given that Tereza was an 11th dimensional Ar’ton, her galaxy was intended for beings of her caliber. The player and Reynard have trouble at first, but are able to get the hang of things and go from planet to planet, making it to the center of the galaxy. Upon arriving at Tereza’s surreal world of water and ice, Reynard realizes that Ultinn-lacksus followed them. Fighting through the remains of Anton’s forces, the two make it to Tereza’s castle. Following multiple clashes with Ultinn-lacksus, Reynard reaches his limit with the Unreal God’s arrogance and declares he will not be coming with them. Calling upon his old power as The Sulfur of Old, Reynard smites Ultinn-lacksus and erases him from existence.

Reynard then takes some time to go through Tereza’s research and realizes the Cosmos proper is in grave danger. After sending what he can back to ENCOM, Reynard uses his newfound knowledge to redirect the black hole at the center of Tereza’s galaxy into a wormhole leading to Universe-23. Getting ready to head out, he invites the player character to join him, citing that it would be a shame if they stayed behind given the help they provided. They accept regardless of what the player chooses.

The ending of the DLC is a surreal journey through the wormhole with Reynard, putting the player back at the title screen. Reynard ended up on Earth-23 just as he intended, where he would go on to join G.A.I.G. (later becoming M.A.I.G.). As for the player character, research indicates that they reincarnated as Reynard’s adopted children, Jackson Woodall and Mary Pickford. Whether or not they have memories of the Requiem Cosmos is unclear. Jackson is too preoccupied with memories of Atlantis, but seems to recall his duties at ENCOM. Mary seems to have the most memories, but they are scattered. Reynard is continuously looking into this matter while making sure his newfound children stay safe and sound.

As for what happened to Mads, after making sure Camden was safe and sound in Red River City where he could be discovered by M.A.I.G., he went off to explore the Cosmos. Now that he was an 11D Bizarre God, Mads could go wherever and do almost whatever he wanted. Upon meeting back up with Tereza, they became close friends and went to visit Ulrich. Restoring the rest of his memories, he had a lot to tell Mads as The Realm of Chaos saw the betrayal of a general of one of the other Discordant Gods. Mads also tracked down Adriana, Karl, Isador, and Reynard, having missed them and wanting to catch up with them.

Concluding that The Reverse Serpent could escape the Requiem Cosmos at any moment, Mads became a teacher for any mage that sought him out. The best he could do at the moment was spread his knowledge around. Mads has seemed to have taken interest in the fallen angel Zasiel of Inferno-23 and Sir Blood-Wraith Andrew Raynot of The Iron City. Both individuals are fans of the Requiem Series, took a liking to Mads, and have great potential. Mads is more than happy to teach them void magic and share his stories with them.

And on an ending note, Zistratorr appeared to have successfully reincarnated in Universe-23 as an animal spirit by the name of Dietrich Bauer. The only hiccup was that he missed the ideal window for reincarnation he needed. He would become a Gorgosaurus who would go on to witness the extinction of the dinosaurs. After wandering the world for eons looking for others from the Requiem Cosmos, he would end up as the CEO of the DELTA Corporation in the modern era. DELTA Corp. specializes in the refinement of raw materials and resources, and is allied with The League and all of its allies, including M.A.I.G., The Liger Brigade, and The ACF.
