“No one’s home…” Dragoslava said as she peaked in through the window. “Alright, we’ll check the barracks, then the tower.”

The trio walked over to the barracks to see that it was fairly busy that day. Fortunately Brenna was around, so she could let them into the knight’s quarters. Blood-Wraith was there, filling out a report. He could not talk much, so Stolon and Dragoslava went to Theobold’s office to speak with the Captain General.

Theobold looked up from his work to address them. “Drago, how are you doing? And who’s this?” He was not sure what to make of the demon.

Stolon stepped forward to introduce himself. “An honor to meet you, Captain General. I am Duke Stolon O’Corvidae of Inferno, or rather Inferno-23 as the kids are saying these days.”

“Well a pleasure to meet you, your grace” Theobold replied as they shook hands. “What can I do for you on this fine day?”

“I’ve heard from Valentina Pari and her daughter that Sir Blood-Wraith is ailing in both mind and spirit. If he’s not too busy, I’d like to invite him to one of my family’s picnics today.”

“The lad is a bit preoccupied at the moment, but I can suspend his duties for the rest of the day…”

As he said that, Blood-Wraith walked in and placed a folder on Theobold’s desk. “My report is finished, Captain General.”

Theobold quickly thumbed through it. “Well done, Sir Raynot. Now go have fun at Stolon’s picnic. The rest of your duties are suspended for the day.”

Blood-Wraith blinked, a bit surprised. “Oh um, yes, sir! Thank you, Captain General.”

Upon leaving the barracks and heading to Ironfire Station, Stolon explained what was going on. Blood-Wraith was a little nervous about leaving the Unlight, but was eager to see Valentina and Gabirella again. Desislav was also happy to return to his home universe, even if it was just Inferno he would be visiting. Interestingly Blood-Wraith shook a little as they entered the Cosmos proper, as if his body was adjusting to the new environment.

“Intriguing, given that this isn’t his first trip into the Cosmos proper” Dragoslava pointed out.

Stolon nodded. “Right, given that little visit he paid to that one pair of humans I sensed a while ago. Do you know who they were, Blood?”

He sneezed. “Not really, other than annoying.” The others chuckled.

“That was the couple Stolas would have stayed with, had he taken on a human incarnation. Evidently that argument was about their finances and your intervention caused them to start investing in the stock market. This led to Stolas losing interest in them as he was looking for an inquisitive and scientifically-minded family. While I was eager to see him be successful on Earth, you saved us all a great deal of duress.”

“Oh, okay…” Blood-Wraith was not sure how to feel about all of that.

“I understand your confusion, Blood. If it’s any consolation, you helped fund The Liger Brigade, as those two were friends of the Briggs family, the main family behind the brigade.”

“I see.” That was certainly a bizarre revelation and caused Blood-Wraith to reflect on his past actions.

Pulling into New Paradiso Grand Central Station, Blood-Wraith and Desislav heard a series of trumpets playing a welcoming tune. They were confused by this, so Stolon explained that it was just something that happened for new arrivals. The four made their way through the bustling station to a limousine waiting outside. In the driver’s seat was another demon Stolon introduced as Sullivan Aves, a butler for his family.

“I trust your trip went well, Master Stolon?” He asked as he started to drive.

“Very. Sir Blood-Wraith was a little busy at first, but Captain General Bloodworth let him off early.”

“It’s a pleasure to meet you, Sir Raynot.”

    “Same, Mr. Aves,” Blood-Wraith replied.

“And a pleasure to meet you too, Mr. Robles,” he further welcomed.

“Likewise, Mr. Aves,” said Desislav. “I did not expect Hell to be so hospital, truth be told.”

Stolon laughed. “Well imagination runs wild when you lack knowledge and have a group of ideologies that encourage you to be next to godliness.”

“Keep this in mind, Mr. Robles: avoid the deepest layers of Inferno,” Sullivan added as a closing remark. “Only the strongest demons dare venture into that forbidden realm.”

They soon arrived at the O’Corvidae mansion, with Stolon leading them inside. He was eager to show his two new guests around. Dragoslava had been to the mansion before, so she added anecdotes from her experiences when needed. Blood-Wraith and Desislav were amazed by all of the paintings, trophies, and heirlooms on display. The tour was interrupted by two boys who came running up to the group. Naturally Sullivan told them not to run into the mansion, but they were too busy bouncing around Dragoslava to listen.

“Forlas, Stoltur!” she said. “How are you boys doing?”

“Hi, Drago! Where have you been?” Forlas asked.

“Yeah, what adventures have you been on?” Stoltur added.

She laughed. “Well settle down and I’ll tell you. Mind if I do, guys?” she asked Stolon and Sullivan.

Sullivan nodded. “Xavier and I are still preparing the food, so you have some time to swap stories. Would you like to go with them, Mr. Robles?”

    “Oh, sure…”

Forlas inspected him. “I don’t know. How cool is he?”

“The coolest, as you would say” Sullivan answered. “Desislav Robles was instrumental in saving the Cosmos. He is also Dragoslava’s betrothed.”

“Ohhh…” the boys said in unison.

Dragoslava giggled. “Come on, Desislav.” The four went up the stairs, with the brothers asking Desislav all sorts of questions as they did.

Stolon and Sullivan chuckled. The butler then began to leave the room. “With that being taken care of, I must return to the kitchen.”

“Very good,” Stolon replied. “Now, Blood, Valentina is in the parlor if you want to talk to her. As for me, I need to go speak to the missus.”

    “Sure. Thank you, Stolon.”

Walking into the indicated room, Blood-Wraith saw Valentina sitting down, gazing out the window. While it was easy to tell she had a lot on her mind, she was clearly doing a lot better than when they had met outside the Magician’s Labyrinth. She noticed him and smiled.

“Hello, Blood,” she said as he walked up to give her a hug.

He sat down beside her and took a moment to get her caught up. “... so other than the reports I have to do and my upcoming semester, that’s pretty much it right now.”

“How wonderful, aside from the paperwork. I can certainly relate to that one. Now as for Gabriella and Weaver, they should be here soon. They went out to grab some groceries and they’re certainly taking their time…” she said with a chuckle. “Since we have a moment, Blood, I may have met someone that can potentially help us out with our troubles.”

Blood-Wraith gave her a look of concern. “Val? What are you up to?”

“Don’t worry, sweetie, it’ll be fine. His name is The Vermillion King and he has a way for me to become stronger.”

“I see…” Blood-Wraith did not like the sound of that name. “And you’re sure about this? He doesn’t sound trustworthy.”

She hesitantly nodded. “For the most part. I’ll admit that he doesn’t have the best reputation, but no one has intervened yet. Just a lot of telling me to be careful.”

Blood-Wraith pondered the situation for a moment. “Hum, I can’t stop you, but promise you’ll stay safe and sound?”

    “Promise.”

As she said that, Gabriella appeared in the parlor’s entrance, with Weaver handing some paper bags off to Sullivan. “Blood, good to see you again!” she said.

“Hey, Gabriella,” he said as he gave her a hug. “Andelin told me about what happened over in Shadowland.”

They both sat down. “Yeah, things got a bit hectic,” she admitted. “Oh, Weaver, here.” He stepped over as Blood-Wraith stood up.

“Nice to finally meet you, Blood-Wraith,” Weaver said as he held out his hand.

“Same here,” he replied as they shook hands. The feel of his rough skin was a bit odd, but it indicated he was a hard worker.

“Sorry I couldn’t be there for everyone’s return. Gabriella and I got wrapped up doing stuff here.”

“It’s alright. If you need more time, go ahead. I’m taking time for a school semester and giving Tiberius extra time to get the guild ready” he explained as they sat down again.

    “Huh, funny, you’re talking like I’m already a member…”

“Well you are. I’ve already told Tiberius and we’re making accommodations for you.”

This surprised Weaver. “Oh, okay then! Thanks. I still need to achieve ULTRAMagic though.”

“Don’t worry, Weaver,” said Gabriella. “It sounds like we have three months to get this figured out. Finding some fragments in the Unlight shouldn’t be a problem.”

Blood-Wraith nodded. “That’s what Desislav did and he’s good to go.”

“Desislav’s there?” Weaver asked. “Ha, how’s he doing these days?”

    “You know him?”

“Yeah. I’ve gone over to The Iron City a couple of times in the past to get stuff from Corentin.”

“Ah. He’s fine… he lost his satyr legs for human legs, but other than that he’s fine.”

Weaver definitely needed some context after that one. Blood-Wraith explained what had happened after they returned from The Dark Grand Desert in brief. Weaver was stunned. Firstly, he needed to get on Dunja’s case for the Tar Man thing. Secondly, he made plans to treat Desislav to a mug of mead. After the explanation was finished, Gabriella and Weaver gave Blood-Wraith a run down of their time in Shadowland from their perspective. The boy felt a weird mix of fascination and concern.

Gabriella then remembered something. “Oh, Blood? After the picnic, would you like to come with me, Weaver, and Stolas to the Critical Chance Arcade? We’re meeting with two of our friends there and one of them happens to be a reincarnated primordial.”

All of that caught his interest. “Sure, that sounds fun.”

“Dear?” Valentina spoke. “Have we confirmed if Zasiel has ULTRAMagic potential?”

“Ah yes, that.” Gabriella could see that Blood-Wraith was incredibly interested. “Zasiel has a pretty fascinating soul that we think will eventually benefit the guild. The only thing is that he’s a very chaotic entity, for better or worse. We must warn you that his inclusion won’t be without a good deal of friction.”

Blood-Wraith thought about it for a moment and took a breath to ease his concerns. “That hectic, huh? Well, we won’t know for sure until he joins. I’m sure we can handle it with Tiberius and Alexia around.”

“That’s the spirit, Blood,” Valentina complimented. “Every problem has a solution after all.”

Stolon appeared in the parlor entrance. “Ah, Weaver, Gabriella; there you two are. Lunch is ready, everyone.”

They all got up, with Gabriella leading. “Then let’s head outside. I think you’ll like the rest of Stolon’s family, Blood.”

He chuckled. “Well I saw Forlas and Stoltur already and they seem full of energy.”

“I really need to stop exciting them so much so they don’t go running through the mansion,” Stolon remarked with a laugh.

Everybody else was already outside at a set of picnic tables. Stolon took the opportunity to introduce Blood-Wraith to those he had not met yet. Stolon’s wife, Susanne, was pleased to meet the young knight while Stolas was very interested in him. He had never seen quite an entity like Blood-Wraith before. Naturally he was asking him all sorts of questions as they ate. While Gabriella cautioned Stolas to take it easy a few times, Blood-Wraith assured her it was alright.

The picnic as a whole was incredibly fun for Blood-Wraith. The O’Corvidae’s eagerness to get to know him was comforting and seeing Valentina again was a relief. After the meal, Forlas and Stoltur wanted to play with Blood-Wraith, so Sullivan proposed they all play some ball games, such as baseball and soccer. Blood-Wraith was not sure how to play these games, but Desislav and Weaver assured him they were easy. Once he got the hang of things, Blood-Wraith enjoyed baseball in particular. Soccer was also great as it challenged his reactions and problem solving skills. He would definitely have to teach Aureolus all of this when he returned home.
