Reality Errors

Reality Errors are a classification of spatial anomalies that appear throughout the Cosmos, typically showing up in universes that interact with the Unlight. These interactions allow The Unlight to bleed into universes, creating zones of distorted reality. Reality Errors are very dangerous to enter for a variety of reasons. The main reason is that one can easily end up in The Unlight without a guide. Unknown hazards and/or dangerous entities may also be present.

In regards to the types of Reality Errors, there is an unknown amount on account of how immense the Unlight is. There are four that are the most commonly observed, however. These include:
  • Liminal Errors. These are usually born from collective nostalgia. They take the form of infinite, transitional spaces. Many who enter them state that they induce calmness and a desire to traverse that space
  • Distortion Errors. These are recreations of specific locations that do not actually recreate said locations. Distortions are incredibly easy to get lost in because of their familiarity
  • Alternate Errors. These errors are bizarre in that they do not have a specific origin. The name is indicative of what they are. Many say that these embody The Unlight’s nature of emulating reality. Some have also asserted that these are realities that could have been. It must be noted that these are not to be confused with Graveyard Universes.
  • Aberration Errors. These are incomprehensible and difficult to locate. They do not obey any rules or structure. It is also possible for them to take on the appearance of the other types, making them even more dangerous than the others. It is impossible to predict how these will manifest.
Amongst these classifications are three well known Reality Error zones that have been extensively studied by The Anomaly Containment Foundation (The ACF), The Liger Brigade and The Magic Anomaly Investigation Group (M.A.I.G.). They are as follows:
  • Sunset. A liminal error that manifests as a perpetual, rural roadway close to a set of woods. It is always sunset and feels like one is going home. Very few anomalies have been discovered in this zone. Sometimes other travelers and campers can be found here.
  • The Library. A distortion error that takes the form of a seemingly unending library. It most commonly appears connected to random buildings. The books found here are meaningless. They are not gibberish, but they describe things and events that have never happened.
  • The Red Abyss. An alternate error that manifests as a blood ocean. It can appear anywhere, even on objects such as the moon. The blood cannot be identified, but is breathable. Both of these traits have proven difficult to study and have no definitive answer as to how they function. The ocean itself is full of monoliths that resemble basalt and meaningless temples.
Reality Errors are of great interest to many individuals and organizations since they allow one to travel to The Unlight. It is normally impossible to go there without assistance or extremely advanced technology. The safest and most reliable method is to ask a higher entity for help. Typically mages ask demons, devils, or angels, assuming one is knowledgeable with necromancy. If relying on technology, faster than light travel is mandatory. How this is accomplished is dependent on how advanced one’s civilization is. There is no definitive method for FTL travel.

If none of these are possible, Reality Errors are the only option. Whether or not one can get to The Unlight depends on the error. The ease of access can be observed as follows:
  • Distortion: Easy, but tricky to navigate.
  • Liminal: Safe, but takes a while to get through.
  • Alternate: Hard and risky to travel through.
  • Aberration: Dangerous and borderline Impossible. It is recommended to avoid these at all costs.
There is one known Reality Error that is fully reliable: The Ghost Realm. It is an aberration-type error where ghosts reside and is ruled over by ANTIMagic Specter. This error is not impossible to find, but it can be difficult to locate and traverse. The ones who can access it the easiest are reapers, dullahans, ghosts, incubi, succubi, shinigami, and oni. Demons, devils, and angels can also go there easily, but prefer to avoid the realm.

The Ghost Realm is a haunting place and the residents are not keen on outsiders. It is not for the faint of heart as ghosts will react violently, some even attacking. Ghosts themselves are embodiments of emotion (usually despair, fear, and dread). Some are Souls that have not moved on, but most are created from collective emotion. The majority of ghosts cannot stand places like Earth and prefer to stay in the Ghost Realm. This is the core reason for why most people do not think they exist. Perhaps that is for the better…

Making things worse is the terrain and environment of the Ghost Realm. Everything is rocky and wet, with dense fog everywhere. There are no forests, just swamps that are dangerous to maneuver. Bottomless pits of mud and quicksand have been known to drag travelers to their doom. Mountains are treacherous and hazardous, with no paths for safe hiking. And as for the oceans, they lead nowhere and are home to all sorts of dangerous entities. On top of all of this, it is perpetually nighttime with only a full moon providing any light.

In order to enter this realm, the permission of Specter is required. The only requirement is to pay respect to the dead (exceptions do apply). Failure to do this before or during will result in being sent back to one’s realm of origin. Specter does not tolerate troublemakers and he will punish said misbehavers. Plus there are some ghosts that will immediately retaliate upon any hint of ruckus. Even the strongest of entities have had trouble in this regard.

ANTIMagic Specter is an incredibly interesting entity in and of himself. He is a reincarnated primordial (suspected to be The Conspirator of Old) and one of the strongest known ANTIMagic mages. His power has been documented as being on par with entities such as ULTRAMagic Ultimatum, Sun Wukong, Hermes Trismegistus, Spiritus Magni Drusa, Thor, and Archangel Raguel. Specter prefers to stay in the Ghost Realm as he fears his power could easily damage the Cosmos (whether or not this is possible is something he is not willing to test). He also feels that it is his duty to make sure no one abuses the Ghost Realm.

Despite what one’s intentions are, it is best to avoid Reality Errors. They are dangerous to explore and easy to get lost in. If you find yourself in one by accident, it is best to turn right around and exit the way you came.
