ANTIMagic Haze

ANTIMagic designates mages with chaotic, unpredictable magic. This is not to be confused with aberrant magic as many of these mages have aberrant abilities. ANTIMagic usually forms when there is a great upheaval in one's magic. What this upheaval is can be literally anything, with the end result being either the mage in question being corrupted or forming a new entity altogether. There is also the possibility that an ANTIMagic mage can form from the collective emotions of a group of people. ANTIMagic can also be used to designate magic or magic-capable entities that are poorly understood. Whatever the case, The ACF, The ULTRAMagic Guild, The Liger Brigade, and M.A.I.G. are very concerned about these mages.

Obviously these mages are quite dangerous as they lack discipline and training. ANTIMagic mages are also tricky to track down. They do not have a guild nor any allegiance to each other. It does not help that they also pop up at complete random. Some examples of these mages that have been found are:
  • Phobos (Bethany Briggs)
  • Deimos (Eustorgio/Deimos Pryce)
  • Fractal (Sirius Fractal)
  • Terror
  • Eon
  • Inferno (Ryota Tsukumo)
  • Mania (Shigeko Tsukumo)
  • Colony (Hel Jessica Tah)
  • Hex (Konrad Strobel)
  • Haze
Haze in particular is a semi-incorporeal mage that needs to possess someone in order to use his power. He can manifest in the Unlight, but he will be in a much weaker state. Outside of the Unlight he appears as a dark cloud until he finds a host. Typically he favors those looking to enact revenge or justice, but he can also target random people. The only things required from the host are basic human intelligence (or higher) and a pure enough heart. Those of black hearts die of asphyxiation and are consumed by Haze. This latter outcome is frequently observed when Haze is feeding.

Upon finding a suitable host, Haze creates a symbiosis or sorts with the target. He overrides their magic and replaces it with his own aberrant abilities. Haze then assumes control, but aligns himself with the host’s ambitions (most of the time). Those with a strong enough will can communicate with Haze and even work together. An interesting side effect of a possession is that the host can transform to resemble what Haze would look like if he could manifest outside the Unlight. If a transformation is not possible, he will appear like a ghost around the host.

The danger surrounding Haze is that he can possess anyone within the 3rd and 4th dimension. The vector for possession seems to be emotion, meaning that anyone expressing any form of emotion is a potential host. Even the act of not having emotions seems to count as having some form of emotions (note that this only applies to standard life). Haze is also good at hiding his presence spiritually and physically, with only a select few being able to detect him when he is scouting or hunting. Containment has proven impossible by both The Liger Brigade and M.A.I.G. The former was able to hold him for a week before he escaped by possessing a Liger operative guarding his containment cell. M.A.I.G. on the other hand have tried reasoning with him, to varying degrees of success.

A concerning factor that the ULTRAMagic Guild has discovered is that Haze cannot die and is sustained by the desire for vengeance and justice. It is also highly likely that he was born from a chaotic event and does not originate from any mage in particular. Fortunately Haze does seem to like the ULTRAMagic Guild, so they have been able to talk to and learn more about him. He is even considered an honorary member of the guild. This has led to a decrease in incidents wherever he goes, but Haze is still a wild card at the end of the day.

Haze highlights the dangers of ANTIMagic. ANTIMagic mages can only be found when they identify themselves and it is unknown how many there are. Some of these mages are peaceful, but that is only a handful of cases. Many also say that they are different, only for them to end up causing chaos and destruction. Concerns of individuals collecting these anomalies have been raised, but it is incredibly unlikely. The danger and risk would be too immense to be feasible for anyone. Ultimately the only solutions are to either defeat or befriend these mages.
