Will clapped his hands several times, hyping himself for his duel with Jun as he danced around nervously at Bellanger Park. Thankfully it was a very nice day out with barely a cloud in sight. “Alright, I’ve got this–this isn’t going to be like the duel with Eloise…”

Barry laughed with utmost nostalgia, remembering that that had happened 10 years prior for him. “Will, I think you’re worrying a little too much–also jeez, that brings me back…”

Will looked down at his ink-covered hands as he curled and flexed them and nodded with a chuckle. “Ah… fair enough.”

Aoife patted him on the shoulder. “Inner peace, sweetie–Jun agreed to this, so you have nothing to worry about…”

“Well, technically he didn’t,” Satsuki pointed out as he calibrated his scabbard. “But it would behoove his honor for him to show up.”

“Don’t worry, Tomato-kun will show up,” Ryota said as he stretched, his body slightly flaring up as it did. “He can’t say no to a challenge like this… or at least, I haven’t seen him say no yet.”

“He seems like an upstanding young man,” Aoife observed.

“Hey, can I sit in and watch?” Bethany called out as she casually strolled up to the group with a bag of popcorn.

This made Morrigan laugh. “I don’t see why not, Sat–Liuetenant?”

Satsuki looked up, hummed to think about it, and nodded. It seemed like an ideal way to get Bethany up to speed on what was going on. “Alright then, I’ll permit it.”

“Cool,” she replied as she sat down on a nearby bench. “So, Will, are you guys going to do it here in the park or what? Because I know what your magic is like…”

With a chuckle, Will fist-bumped Morrigan and wiped his hands against each other even though they had nothing on them. “Don’t worry, I have the perfect void spell for the occasion–”

Will was cut off by the sound of surging electricity approaching, and in a flash of light Jun appeared, merged with Volt. The combined form gave his body a metallic gold-coated look to it with sparks of static here and there. Volt then demerged, leaving Jun a bit confused. “Oi! Volt?!” Jun questioned.

“Hold on, Trigger–I want to get a good look at Will here…” He then went over and held out his hand. “Nice to meet you, Will–I’ve heard a lot about you down in Inferno.”

“Nice to meet you too,” Will replied as he shook hands. “Also, ‘Trigger?’” he asked with a chuckle.

“Yeah, Jun’s a bit of a trigger you could say–ready to leap into danger to take care of things…” Volt then glanced between the two and realized something. “Hey, wait! Your ULTRAMagic Ignition so that means… Yeah, ULTRAMagic Trigger and ULTRAMagic Ignition if Jun ever wants to join The ULTRAMagic Guild!”

Aoife nodded with a subtle grin. “Hey, if he has the patience for it, we’ll gladly let him join. And that sounds like a fine name to me.”

Jun groaned a little, but he would be lying if he said he did not find the offer inviting. “Actually I’d want to be called ‘ULTRAMagic Hunter…’”

“Sorry, Kid, already taken,” Barry said as he raised his hand. “Although maybe ‘ULTRAMagic Musician’ may have been more fitting for me given my music crafting, hehe.”

Satsuki glanced around, looking for someone. “Where’s X-Pen?”

“She’s… looking into something for us,” Volt answered. There was an eerie quality to his voice that sent chills down everyone’s spines, raising an air of concern. Shaking off his anxiety, Volt grinned at Will with a pride that indicated he was sizing Will up. “You’ve been making a lot of noise as of late, Will. You’re really knocking some heads, and I dig that–no surprise when your first partner was a fire devil. Make a note of that, Jun–you can learn a lot about a mage from their magic.”

“Hai, as magic is a reflection of the soul and mind,” he agreed.

    “Pretty wise, Kiddo,” Aoife complimented.

“Tomato-kun’s got magic down to a tee,” Ryota added. “Albeit he doesn't always get it right…” This made Jun glare at him, of which he cheekily smiled back. “Will’s got a lot of magic up his sleeve, so what do you think of him now, Jun?”

Jun took a moment to think about everything he had learned about Will in recent times, from his void magic to his necromancy to his hex magic… “Will is a man of many talents, something I’d expect from an elder, but it also implies he can’t make up his mind…”

Will started to speak, but then stopped and smiled. “Well you’ve got me there… Hey, wait a second–aren’t you 25? I’m not that old!”

“There’s nothing wrong with having many talents,” Inkblot added as he half emerged from Will’s arm. “A lot of artists tend to be polymaths or jacks-of-all-trades, or have the potential to be one.”

“Stephen over at The Reality Walkers can attest to that,” Barry put in. “Sure, someone with many interests has a hard time focusing on one thing in particular, but I like to think that means you’re always looking forward and refuse to settle down.”

Jun saw Volt nod at him and gave a subtle smile. “That optimism is something you need to be careful of–don’t lose track of it, but remember that there’s always villains hiding in the shadows.”

“No two ways about that one, Boyo,” Morrigan put in.

“You guys are pretty smart–I like all of you,” Volt stated as he electrified and went into Jun. “Alright, enough chitchat–let’s get things started.”

“FINALLY,” said Bethany, causing the others to chuckle. “Will and the crew didn’t beat me and Uncle Valentin with talking, but they probably could have if they tried, ha.”

Will laughed and snapped his fingers to get everyone’s attention. “To avoid damaging the park, ahem–Nez, Xhra, Qun!” Everyone felt a slight shift in the area around them as everything shifted to a pale blue hue and had a hazy quality to it. They were still at the park, but something was clearly different. “Alright! Now we can duel to our heart’s content. I moved us… mmm, you could say off to the side of reality.”

Jun was amazed by what he was experiencing, and bent down to feel the grass. It felt normal, but he could tell that Will’s void magic had worked excellently. “Shinjirarenai… Credit where credit is due, Will. Now, let’s duel.”

“You sure you’ve got this, Will?” Haze asked as he stuck Morrigan’s hand up.

“Yeah… pretty sure I do, at least…” he replied with a shrug, causing some of the others to be a little skeptical towards him.

Will and Jun stepped away from the others a bit and got ready. Each assumed their own ready stance, and Will offered to let Jun start… He immediately came to regret this decision as Jun surged forward with his knives at the ready, blades of lighting extending from them. Will had to weave and dodge, surging and bouncing around like a blob of goo trying not to get shocked. Jun grew a little annoyed and called Will out for his seeming lack of aggression, but Volt would laugh this off and reminded Jun that he told Will to get serious–the man was being serious, as how was he supposed to take on Jun’s attacks if he was working with an ink devil? Jun chased Will around for a little bit more only for Will to run as fast he could, grabbing onto a light pole to sling himself into Jun with a flying kick that he just barely dodged.

With Jun taking a second to regain his bearings, Will got down and quickly sketched up what looked like a rectangular box with his finger. What he had actually created seemed to be a large shield that he used to block Jun’s attacks at first. Barry was a little concerned that Will was not maintaining his tempo like back in the duel with Eloise, but he was quickly proven wrong. Once Will had Jun off guard enough, he started shoving the shield into his opponent to force him back. And just as Jun was about to surge around the shield, Will knocked it over on him, with it turning into a thick, rubbery blanket that smothered Jun. Will used this opening to get out of sight so he could draw something good.

While Jun was fighting with the ink blanket, Vapor 6 appeared right beside Barry. “Barry! Why didn’t you tell me Will and Jun’s duel started?!”

    “Oops, sorry, Vapor…”

Vapor 6 sighed, then said hello to everyone. “So how’s it going so far?”

“Will was on the ropes, but he ran off to draw something,” Bethany answered as she offered him some of her popcorn.

    “So that’s Voltage Tessla… a little reckless, but he’s got decent form…”

Morrigan glanced at him with a befuddled look. “You can tell from all of that chaos?”

Vapor 6 paid no mind to the skepticism and nodded. “Easily. Here’s hoping I can talk to Will afterwards to give him some advice… and it wouldn’t hurt to talk to Volt too.”

Will had returned with two swords sketched from his ink and was fighting Jun with them. Inkblot had to take control of Will’s arms for this strategy, but he did not mind as Will had the right idea. This clash between weapons did not last long, however, as Jun was able to cut right through the swords with his knives. Will then melted into a puddle of ink and appeared behind Jun, bumping him to the ground and slinking away to draw something else. Jun was not going to let him do this and surged over to where he was heading off to. This further led to a cat and mouse game where they darted around the void spell space. Will was not too sure what to do as Jun would not give him a moment to breathe and it was making him angry–he was not mad at Jun, rather he was feeling the pressure and he was ready to snap.

Will took the form of another puddle, but this time he grabbed onto Jun and started pulling him under, like a thick mire of tar. The idea was clear to Will–seperate Jun and Volt, as Inkblot could grab onto Volt, but this evidently did not come across to their audience. Bethany put her fingers in her mouth and whistled. “YO, WILL, easy now! Do I need to remind you Uncle Val regretted the tar pit plan?!”

“Uhhh…” Will froze as Jun tried to push back against the ink, completely trapped. He felt utterly mortified that he had let himself go like that.

“Um, sweetie,” Aoife objected. “Not to rain on your parade…”

Jun finally broke through the ink, gasping for air. “Will, I said get serious!”

“HA, jeez, Will–at least take us out to dinner first!” Volt’s voice playfully mocked.

“Perfect timing–Will, call off the spell for a second,” a female’s voice said, causing a massive surge of adrenaline in Will’s veins.

“Jun, time out…” he said as he pushed him out and reformed back into himself. “Helx Duk.” The group returned back to the park, with not a single blade of grass out of place.

Jun was going to give Will a piece of his mind, but he had sensed the issue too. “What’s wrong, Will?”

“Someone told me to stop the duel… and I’m not sure who.”

“Wait, someone told you, Boyo?” Morrigan asked as she walked over.

“I have an idea, but I couldn’t say who it is,” Haze stated.

“Wait, what do you mean?” Volt asked as he partially emerged from Jun’s arm. “You’re not being clear here…”

Haze groaned, as the topic was frustrating to him to no end. “There’s… I don’t want to say another god yet, but that’s what it feels like–there’s someone else who’s… who’s busy, but is saying stuff to Will on occasion–was it her again, Will?”

He nodded and started looking around. “Yeah…” Will kept glancing back and forth, looking for something specific, and then he noticed Keisuke running up to them. “There!”

“Kesiuke?” Jun questioned. “What’s going on?”

“Jun, Volt–we have trouble!” Keisuke said as he stopped to catch his breath. “Me and Jessica found something terrible…”

Volt buzzed with the sound of fierce electricity and tapped Jun’s shoulder. “Get ready to tussle, Trigger.”

Sastuki had stepped over with his sword drawn, the blade glowing with orange energy. “So I guess Mortician and Dustin are finally showing their faces, right?” Keisuke nodded with a worried look on his face. “How bad is it?”

“They found Perkele, and are harassing him again… and there’s something else…”

Bethany walked over and began turning into her manticore form with a slightly maniacal grin on her face, despite having an idea of what Keisuke was referring to. “Haha, I’ve been waiting for this dirtbag to show his face around here–I would’ve gone looking for him myself, but Doc Reynard asked me to keep a low profile. Jun, you ready to see how we do it here in the states?”

Jun looked at her with an incredulous face at first… and then remembered she was around 300 years old, so she had the right to speak to him like that. “Yeah, but remember this is my fight…”

“Don’t be a hero, Tomato-kun,” Ryota cautioned. “You know not to underestimate Nobu…” The group could feel the clash of magic getting closer, and even swore they saw light from jets of indigo fire.

Will glanced towards Aoife and Barry as Vapor 6 merged with his partner and nodded at them, with them nodding back. “No use sitting around waiting for trouble–let’s go see what’s up…”
