Many stories of the great battles of the Cosmos are destined to be forgotten, with the lucky few being lost to whispers, and the even rarer fewer actually being told. Universe-23-6 once saw a strange battle unfold that became one story among many. An aspect of Mercurius sought to rebel against God, a tale all should be familiar with if one knows of the conflict between The Tyrant God and The Sepulcher God. Proclaiming himself to be Mercurius, a fragment of the true abyss orchestrated a plot that would create a great Philosopher's Stone that would give it the power of a god.
Opposing Mercurius was the great Hermes Trismegistus, joined by a band of royal alchemists in a kingdom that was lost upon the next iteration of Universe-23. Mercurius had many underlings, one being a son he would call Mercurius II. The boy would come to clash with a quirky, up and coming alchemist named Dorn Von Hohenheim. Through many battles the two came to respect each other, despite Mercurius II's sneaky tactics and Dorn Adherence to honor (with his own personal quirks).
Eventually the great battle drew its curtain and Mercurius was defeated. The Madman of Old stepped in to punish Mercurius, but had an idea when Adonai chose to forgive the fragment of the abyss. The great archangel, Ianoda, would be created from Mercurius and would embody the wrath of God. As for Mercurius II, he had managed to escape Universe-23 into The Unlight. After causing trouble for the kingdom of Feuerland, The Automaton of Old went after him. Truthfully he was not sure what to do as Mercurius II was a troublemaker, but he did help Teunis Van Hautum and Andelin Lindbeck chase down Gudrun Holzknecht. Fortunately for Mercurius II, The Mercurial Vault was in need of a guardian, and Mercurius II was desperate not to be returned to the darkness of the abyss.
Mercurius II is a strange entity, a being of darkness coalesced through the Philosopher's Stone embedded in his chest. Being completely inseparable from the stone, he wields great power beyond the wildest dreams of mortal men. He is practically invincible with unparalleled creativity, allowing him to adapt to any situation he is presented with... save for the monotony of being the guardian of The Mercurial Vault. Mercurius II is a social individual who desires to make friends tasked with a job that requires him to be ever diligent. To say he is stir-crazy is a bit of an understatement.
The Mercurial Vault is a colossal, underground complex beyond space and time. It holds a great reservoir where exhausted prima materia goes to be reinvigorated and return to the Cosmos it originated from. It is cold, silent, and foreboding, but also tranquil as the waters of the abyss and flowing prima materia creates a soothing melody that relaxes the soul into peace and stillness. Normally Mercurius II sits around and loathes how lonely the vault is, but something strange has caught his attention. A strange essence has been flowing amongst the spent prima materia, red and abhorrent, and the reservoir is struggling to stop it from flowing back into the Cosmos. In need of help, Mercurius II discovered where Dorn had ended up and knows he can count on him to help solve this issue... except, it has been a long time and Dorn no longer pursues alchemy like he once did, preferring to call on spirits and the gods to cast his magic...
