- - The Unlight - -
The Unlight is a weird realm. It is the result of entities trying to occupy the void, so naturally strange stuff occurs in it. As a result of the void trying to physically manifest itself, it starts to reflect reality itself. This results in areas that will have landmasses, objects, and structures you'll recognize... but they'll always be a bit off and abandoned. Naturally the void also tries to mimic life itself. This results in everyone in the universe theoretically having an Unlight counterpart. In my case, my counterpart is a Sellsword named William... yeah. Of course these counterparts aren't exact, as you can see. While they do use their original counterpart as a template, they tend to differ in personality and life path. They also count towards a species collectively referred to as "Unlight." This is because they technically count as one species despite having vastly different origins. The name chosen is used as an umbrella term to encompass all Unlight counterparts.
- - The Sellsword - -
Unlight Will is a Sellsword who wanders from place to place, offering his services for a price. He will go out and hunt whatever is bugging you if you have the coin. He has a decent track record of getting his jobs done, with only a handful he was unable to complete. He specializes in hunting eldritch horrors that manifest in the Unlight. Unlight beasts are also something he will tackle. One thing he will not do is assassinations...without good cause. He also has pretty high standards, so he won't just sell services to any Joe Schmo off the street. He conducts business in a way that allows him to get paid no matter what. When you hire him, He'll ask for half up front and the other half when he completes the job. Interestingly he has returned the money on the jobs he could not complete. Regardless, his policy has helped him deal with scammers trying to pull a fast one on him. And of note, it's rumored that there have been jobs he has done for free in the past.
Unlight Will tailors his equipment to his jobs, but one thing he always has access to is his sword. It is a wicked claymore that looks like the void tried to create a sword. The blade flows and waves like liquid mercury, yet it is as hard and sharp as any other sword. When swung, the sword can be heard audibly slicing the air amongst screams of the damned. And when in combat, the blade behaves unnaturally, stretching and distorting like an illustration. While a truly horrific blade, Unlight Will wouldn't trade it for the Unlight. It was a gift from a strange, smiling entity. The blade has been at Will's side ever since and has saved his life so many times that he's lost count.
- - Meeting Eruption - -
The other thing Will has access to is a Dragon named Eruption. Eruption in the past was a violent, brute of Dragon. He had the temperament of a frenzied grizzly bear and the patience of an enraged bull. He was raised by a familiar timeline's Heaven as a steed for the horsemen of the apocalypse, specifically War. Unfortunately Eruption was deemed to Violent and was not chosen. After eons of fighting in the realm of chaos, Eruption finally had a moment of clarity: Why the Hell was he such a raging hot head? Sure his scales looked like molten lava, his horns were twisted and gnarly, and his breath could easily blight and poison an entire ocean... but what was his damage? This self reflection would result in him doing some soul searching in the Unlight. He wandered for some time and occasionally got into fights with other giants and colossi of the Unlight. His old personality didn't actually die off, it was just subdued. At some point, Unlight Will was tasked with dealing with Eruption... The Sellsword quickly turned around once he saw Eruption and realized what he was dealing with. Just as he was about to leave so he could refund his client, Eruption blocked him with his giant tail...
Eruption: Mortal! You dare walk away from me? You come here to challenge the mighty Eruption and flee in terror?!
(Unlight Will had looked up and was actually starting to cry. This had been the most scared he had ever been in his life)
Eruption: CRYING?! Aren't you the Sellsword who received the sword from the man of the void? We may not have crossed paths until now, but you certainly do have a reputation...
(Unlight Will then fell to the ground, wondering when Eruption was going to kill him...)
Eruption: Mortal... Will? Will, what happened to that resolve of yours? You were so confident before, ready to smite me and rip out my heart for glory and riches. Where did that all go?
Unlight Will: Please, just get it over with...
Eruption: (He was growing a little irritated) You mortals are all the same... You all have trouble admitting that you are way in over your own heads. If you're expecting me to smite you, I hereby reject your desire. Get up...
Unlight Will: Pardon?
Eruption: UP!
Unlight Will: YESSIR!
Eruption: Hmm... since I am feeling generous today, how about I make you an offer: I will assist you in traversing this vast void and in return, you must take on jobs and finish them no matter what. How does that sound to you?
Unlight Will would accept the fearsome Dragon's offer. Eruption would take on the form of a motorcycle that Unlight Will would henceforth use to travel. It certainly beat waking and borrowing horses. While Eruption prefers not to admit this, he's worried about Unlight Will. The Sellsword appeared as the type to buckle once things became dire enough. Eruption wasn't going to let someone who had the bravery to confront him just die off... even if he did cry and cower in fear. The dragon had also remembered something his brother, Brimstone, had told him. Eruption was powerful, but he had no empathy. How was he to succeed if he kept incinerating and smashing everything? He finally understood what his brother meant after entering the Unlight and meeting Unlight Will. The mortal was a loner and needed someone to be there for him.
- - About Unlight Will - -
Getting back to Unlight Will, personality-wise, he is the quiet type. Typically he only talks when he needs to. He also prefers to be alone. It's nothing personal, he just feels that he's better off alone. He knows what he has to do and how he has to do it. Of course this changed all a bit once Eruption entered the picture. The dragon has been getting him to socialize a bit more. Unlight Will never really wanted to form bonds as business was business, but Eruption insisted he try to make some friends. Unlight Will is also a bit close-minded, but not because he thinks he's superior. This can be seen in his attitude towards beyond the Unlight... he doesn't believe it exists. He's never found the end of the Unlight nor he has found a way out of the Unlight. And quite frankly, he never wants to leave the Unlight. It's his home after all. Despite his habits and mentalities, there is one person he has made friends with prior to Eruption and that would be Auda, the tree entity. Auda is his informant and looks after him when she can. Auda is also one the few people Unlight Will trusts in the Unlight. Of note, he is aware of the ULTRAMagic guild and they are aware of him. He's even worked with a few of their mages before.
Jeez, just wait until he meets ULTRAMagic Shadow...

This Arthur Morgan quote, hehehehe: "I don't speak German neither! I'm here for Money... MONEY." You can thank Russian Badger for using that clip and getting the quote stuck in my head. This one was a doozy and I want to speed this up a bit... do I need to discuss anything else? How do you think this looks? This was an attempt at foreshortening from a year ago... wow, has it really been that long already? How time flies... To be clear, this wasn't the original line art. Obviously I was going to make some changes for this concept. If you are wondering, Unlight Will is levitating. I wanted to add a shadow to indicate that, but it made him look small and Corel screwed it up, forcing me to make a last minute change. Believe it or not, there are traces of the original design in this picture.
Who is Eruption and Brimstone? Well, you'll just have to wait and see. They will be showing up in my works, don't you worry. I typed way too much this time, good lord. I had fun, but jeez. Yes, I looked up what a Sellsword is. I was trying to come up with something for Unlight Will to set him apart... and then I remembered Dark Souls 3 and the Sellsword class. I figured it was perfect given how unpredictable the Unlight is.
