Please note that this has NOTHING to do with Stolas from Helluva Boss or Hazbin Hotel. This is solely based on Stolas' entry in the Goetia and my own personal storytelling. Stolas has existed LONG before those two shows came into existence.

- - Stolas' Childhood - -

Something you have to note about Hell is that there are two major types of demons: Actual demons and fallen angels. True infernal demons have existed in Hell since it popped into existence. Stolas is one of those true demons. Coming from a rich family of avian demons of the corvidae variety, Stolas was pretty much just your average demon. As a youngster he loved to collect stones and thoroughly enjoyed stargazing. Flowers also caught his eye given how pretty and nice they were. They also attracted butterflies which were simply beautiful. Stolas had a rather uneventful childhood up until Zas and Cynassa entered his life.

Zas was a fallen angel who was new to Hell and Cynassa was a young demon who had befriended him. Stolas was at the park when he noticed the two being loud and rowdy. Fearing for the gardens of the park, he went up to the two and told them to be careful. Zas asked why, so Stolas showed them the gardens full of gorgeous flowers. Having flashbacks to his first childhood in Heaven, Zas accepted this and asked Stolas about what flowers were what flowers. Hell definitely had different flora compared to Heaven. Stolas was delighted to tell Zas everything he knew.

The next time Stolas saw Zas and Cynassa was at the Grand infernal Library. He was returning some books while the two were knee deep in a book about the stones and gems of Hell. What a coincidence as Stolas loved studying mineralogy. Naturally he greeted the two and they just so happened to need his help. Zas was a bit confused as some of the stones and gems of Hell were very similar to ones he had found in Heaven. Stolas actually wasn't too sure about Heaven's rocks, but he was going to help regardless. It was at this point Zas and Cynassa realized they should probably befriend Stolas as he was kind, helpful... and very smart. After getting to the end of the book, the two boys asked if they could be friends. Stolas was elated as no one had been this forward with him. He happily accepted. Naturally Stolas had to bring Zas and Cynassa over to his family's mansion. He got the okay and the three were off.

Stolas' family were thrilled to hear that Stolas had finally made some friends. Of course his mother and father were shocked to see that one of them was Fallen Angel Zas... Zas was actually a bit intimidated as Stolas' parents were very powerful demons, he could sense it. It was like being in the presence of an archangel back in Heaven... except Zas was NOT on equal footing with these demons. Suffice it to say he was on his best behavior, which caught Cynassa a bit off guard. Stolas was insistent that his new friends spend the night and they accepted.

It was a very fun night as Stolas naturally had a lot of toys, video games, board games, and movies. Zas, Cynassa, and Stolas just went together, like they were meant to be friends. This friendship would instill a newfound confidence in Stolas that prompted him to really pursue his interests. He would pursue Astronomy, Mineralogy, and Herbology, becoming an expert in these fields. He envied the confidence of Zas and Cynassa and resolved to be just like them. In his college years, Stolas would enroll in the prestigious Adonai University and would graduate with flying colors. Imagine the surprise of Zas and Cynassa when they were sitting in the audience and hearing their names in Stolas' graduation speech.

- - Adulthood - -

Adulthood proper was interesting for Stolas as he would end up earning his place in the pseudomonarchy of Hell as a prince. He had made several discoveries about how Hell's stars worked that elucidated Hell and even Heaven (for context, Hell exists within its own "universe," but it's a lot different from a standard universe). He would also end up discovering several secrets about certain ores and gems in Hell that allowed Hell to enhance their technology. Of course this level of success attracts attention and that resulted in him being summoned by King Solomon.

Of course Solomon was surprised by how cordial Stolas was and was questioning whether or not he had actually summoned a demon. As was to be expected Ornias was able to confirm that Stolas was indeed a demon. The baron had caught the prince's attention as Stolas realized Ornias was in deep trouble when he got back to Hell. After parting ways with Solomon, Stolas made a note of humanity and decided to shift part of his focus to Earth. He was summoned a handful of times of their millennia, one of the most noteworthy being an Irish wanderer named Ellen, during the medieval era.

- - About Stolas - -

Stolas isn't too spectacular personality-wise. As stated above, he is kind, friendly, and smart. Stolas' parents had instilled in him that treating people well was the way to go. You are nice to people and they will be nice to you. This was hard to understand at first, but Zas and Cynassa allowed Stolas to see what his parents meant. Of course Stolas would learn in time that some people will be mean to you no matter how well you treat them, so he amended his mentality a bit. For those who were foul, he would analyze what their issue was and try to form a solution around that... even if that meant running away. Upon advancing through school, Stolas got very invested in studying, even to the point where he rarely took breaks. In truth he wanted to play, explore, and find all sorts of stones and plants. He knew that education came first, however. How were you supposed to get the most out of existence if you knew nothing?

His education was long and grueling, but worth it in his eyes. Plus it made the rewards all the more sweeter. These days Stolas hasn't changed all that much. Of course he tempers his expectations and keeps his emotions in check. He had a tendency for emotional outburst during his teenage years. While he does look back on his childhood fondly, he doesn't miss every aspect of it. What he could definitely do without is random memories popping back into his head while he is trying to study or sleep. The issue is that it's always the embarrassing memories. To get these to go away, Stolas stops, rights the down memory, and ponders on what he could have done differently. As for social interactions, Stolas is one of the few demons where nobody has any complaints about him, aside from the fact that he's so dang clean cut.

The shadowy tail feathers are a manifestation of his...well... tail feathers. Much like how many demons have tails, Stolas has tail feathers since he is a raven based demon. They cannot be interacted with in human form, only fully manifesting in his demon form. Spectral feathers seem to fall from it and fade into nothing. If you manage to find one of his feathers and it does not vanish on you, consider yourself very lucky. Having these feathers is a great honor and is said to bring good fortune. They can also be a means of summoning Stolas if you procured the feather without stealing it.

Currently Stolas is studying the movement of the fire heart planet cluster, observed from the northern hemisphere of Infernal Terra (Hell Earth). It's quite an interesting batch of living planets and they seem to be very active in recent times.

No, nothing drastic this time. No leaving Heaven, no getting stuck in the red sea, no telling a demoness to not do stupid stuff, and no spilling the beans about Hell. Does every story have to be super drastic? No, it just has to be interesting. There isn't too much to say here honestly. What I will say is that Stolas will be showing up in future projects I am working on. In regards to his design, I wanted something simple and I wanted to do something different. Specifically I wanted to try drawing a different type of haircut, a businessman type of haircut. Sure, he doesn't look as infernal as Ornias or Abe, but that's just Stolas. If it's any consolation, he does turn into a giant Raven and Ravens do gather around him when he's on Earth. Also in regards to the eyes, I really wanted to experiment. I legitimately wanted to see how black eyes turned out. I think they look pretty cool. I still suck at shading...

Something the demons of the pseudomonarchy of Hell love to do is attend social events. Usually these range from conferences to gala's in which the royalty discuss what they have been up to with whomever shows up. The turn-outs are fairly decent and are particularly active when the more famous arch demons show up. It's not mandatory to attend, but demons do look favorably upon those who socialize. Yes, the royalty of Hell like to brag, but they usually have something very interesting to tell people about.

Despite being prone to minor anxiety, Stolas will attend these events if he has something he deems interesting to talk about. Astronomy, herbology, and mineralogy can definitely be interesting, but everybody knows about this stuff. What Stolas prefers to talk about are his escapades. Things like meeting King Solomon, attending a grand event in the north eastern United States, visiting a magic guild within the realm known as The Unlight, and even visiting another timeline... speak of the Devil... Stolas here appears to be discussing another timeline he visited. This isn't unheard of as residents of Hell know how to get around the multiverse. It goes doubly so if they know how to access The Unlight.

As an aside, Stolas does have formal clothing... so-to-speak. These clothes are a manifestation of his power and can change based on what the situation calls for.

Pictured here in simple detail are three types of Demons native to Hell. Demons come in all shapes and colors and these are the three most common types outside of arch demons. Of interesting note as that typically special demons or Arch demons are usually the only ones to take on traditional "human" forms. They also are the most likely to have bizarre "demon" forms. The three types seen here are as follows:
  • Red Demons: The most common type of demon who have an affinity with Darkness.
  • Blue Demons: An uncommon type of demon who have an affinity with Light.
  • Gray Demons: A rare type of demon who have no affinity in particular. They also don't typically lean into Darkness or Light.
Not pictured here is another demon of note: Purple Demons. These are even rarer than Gray demons, so not much is known about them. It is said these demons have an affinity with chaos. It is unclear if an equivalent for Order exists. If they do, they would be even just as rare as the purple demons. Any demon of another/unique color usually fits into a role established by the 5 types listed here. Note that horns and tails are not exclusive to a particular type of demon. A demon's color also doesn't necessarily dictate their affinity. It just means they have an easier time gaining affinity with that alignment.

So yeah, not much lore this time. I wanted to make this drawing a bit more dynamic, so I figured I would add some nameless demons, Soul Eater style. Let's be real: I do NOT have the mental fortitude to draw 5 unique characters when Stolas is the focus of this drawing. Should I have done a background? That would've taken longer, but that's something I'm not against. You would not believe the trouble I had drawing Stolas' hair the second time around. It wasn't the new angle, it was the fact that I couldn't get the shape of his hair for some reason.

I still suck at shading, but that didn't stop me from getting fancy. This shading thing is actually starting to grow on me, not going to lie. Now that I am actually doing it, I will start improving over time. I guess you really just have to put one foot in front of the other and soon you'll be walking out the door! For real, the reason why my art is gradually improving is because I am trying new things. These new things are becoming ingrained in my consciousness and of course I always want to be improving. I am NEVER satisfied with my art...
