UMAE 2022 - Captain Roger

Captain Roger is a bit of an oddball. First things first: He is not a captain nor is his name actually Roger. He just thinks the name sounds cool. He hails from a magically inclined universe, yet upon entering the Unlight he had no magic aptitude. Back in his timeline, an alternate version of William was visiting his timeline and this got him curious. Everyone was talking about this strange realm called "The Unlight." Roger was in luck as beneath his homeland was a strange dungeon of a race of superhumans long since past. This dungeon had a gateway into the Unlight and who was Roger to pass up a good time?
Naturally the Unlight confused him at first. The bizarre physics and ways of the eldritch realm does that to everyone and anyone. After wandering for a bit, Roger would peer into a rift that would reveal to him his newest fixation: ULTRAMagic William. This Will was a lot more chaotic and angry, yet weirdly admirable. Plus Roger liked the cut of his jib. He decided this Will would be his new, big brother. And of course he decided to reinvent himself... with a name that has nothing to do with what he originally did back in his universe.
It was at that point he would gain his signature Iron Blood magic. This technique took his somewhat amorphous body and turned it into a giant blade, living blade. He was adept at sword play back in his timeline, dual wielding curved swords. This new power took that to a whole new level. Now he was the blade and no one could best him (or so he thinks). Iron Blood can also create Earth, Wind, Water, Ice, Lightning, and Fire that have the properties of the respective element and Iron. Example: Iron Blood Fire looks like Iron...that acts like Fire. It will burn you and slice you open. Now apply this demented logic to the rest of the combinations...
How is he able to do this reality defying magic? Weave Magic. The Weave is a strange force that permeates all of reality. It allows you to cast magic with the power drawn from the bonds you have with people. Usually you will see this magic in people who couldn't normally cast magic. That's not to say you can't learn Weave Magic if you have magical aptitude. Strangely Roger's desire to be with his big brother unlocked the Weave within him. Whether or not Will accepts him is a whole other story.
Of course his presence in the Unlight wasn't unnoticed. The ULTRAMagic guild noticed him pretty quickly as he decided to pick a fight with a mage who was helping out another new arrival to the Unlight. Either way, it would be in Roger's best interest to make some friends and strengthen his magic. The Metal Empire is quickly looming over The Unlight...

As for his personality? Roger is short tempered and foul mouthed. He's not really one to hang out with. Back in his timeline he was looked down upon. He was often saddled with names like "Bandit," "Vandal," Ruffian," or "Troublemaker." Suffice it to say he did not really have any friends, which may have been his reason to leave. Another reason is that Roger always seemed like he was missing something. The thing he needed just was not in his timeline. When Roger settles down, he's actually quite pleasant and level headed. You would hear him laughing, joking around, and just having a good time in general. It's just that when he's out in the field and on duty, he feels like he needs to be firing on all cylinders just to justify his existence... for better or for worse. Of interesting note is his age. Chronologically he seems to be an adult and by our standards he would be... but his mentality is like that of a teenager. He is truly difficult to gauge given his behaviors and mannerisms.

I had the weirdest Deja Vu while working on this... Anyways, this is an oddball character that I added into the ULTRAMagic Alternate storyline to spice things up. The color scheme had me stumped as I had to figure out what I wanted to go with. And then it hit me: This guy is a bit... unruly, so why not blood red and back? Plus it fits with the whole Iron Blood technique. I also needed to mix things up with the hair, so I went with dirty blonde. I am pretty sure we haven't had that yet. No, the suit is not latex... it's nondescript science fiction material. It's latex-adjacent, but it's not latex. I mean... his main technique is called Blood Iron...
What can you expect with this character? I'm not going to say he's the Kyu of ULTRAMagic Alternate... but he could easily fulfill the role of Kyu in ULTRAMagic Alternate. He's not as smart, but he's no slouch either. I mean jeez, they are both from alternate universes... Will we ever find out his secret identity? His species? His Universe? IRRELEVANT! FOCUS ON THE TASK AT HAND.
Side note, I had fun with the speech bubble. I think I might start experimenting with characters who are on the more unique side of things. There's not too much else to say that wouldn't be a variant of "I had fun coloring this..." Because I did. As usual, tell me what you guys think.

- He loves Metal music, especially power metal. He also is the kind of guy who won't stop listening to stuff like Powerwolf, Sabaton, and GLORYHAMMER.
- He can go back to his original timeline if he wants to. It's just that he prefers the ULTRAMagic timeline.
- Contrary to popular belief, ULTRAMagic Lance and Captain Roger are not from the same timeline. Also Lance is fully aware of who Roger actually is.
- He gets very well mannered and jolly around the holidays for some reason.
- His Weave magic training has been going well, thanks to his teacher, Elaine Gabriella O'Nessie. Ember just so happens to be an expert in Weave magic.
- In line with the above point, Roger has gotten pretty powerful compared to before he started learning weave magic.
- Despite wanting to get away from his old timeline, his former dark lord keeps swinging by his current place of residence in Hell of the ULTRAMagic timeline.
