Things were incredibly hectic following Adrien’s sudden and unexpected entrance, but Antares was able to maintain a level head and got the two to the medical facility in no time at all. Will and Olivia were ordered to assist if need be, going with the medics just in case. Antares, Zoltan, Will, and Olivia stood by in the cool waiting room while Milan, Aelia, and the doctors took care of Adrien and Satsuki. Will felt a bit colder than usual, given the soft, white lights, and it did not help that his heartbeat would not settle down. The wait was nerve racking to say the least. As Antares got up to pace and nervously muttered something under his breath, Will could only begin to imagine what the captain was going through.

Eventually Aelia entered the room, causing Antares to freeze like he had been spotted by a pair of headlights. “Miss Albus! How are they?”

She smiled. “They’re both alright now. You may all come and see them.”

Antares felt a wave of relief wash over him as he indicated for the others to follow. The clean, sterile room they entered was quite spacious, with two beds with their heads up against the opposite wall. Adrien was talking to a nurse while Satsuki’s curtain was still drawn. Presumably Milan was still treating his wounds. Noticing that Adrien was not as banged up as before, Will and Olivia were a little confused… Adrien was also still in his oni form, but that was beside the point.

“How are you doing, Adrien?” Antares asked as he stepped over to the bed.

“Better, ow…” he said as he tried to move his dominant arm. “I’m going to feel that one in the morning.”

Antares smiled. “You fought well, Adrien. Suffice it to say I’m going to be giving you some desk jobs after this.”

“Oh come on, Anter, that was just a warm up… ow.”

Antares nodded as Adrien rubbed his arm. “I see…”

“Alright, you got me there. Turns out I banged up my right arm pretty good. Satsuki got it worse: a cracked rib, broken arm, and a broken leg.”

Milan then pulled back the curtain. “Alright, Satsuki is better now, for the most part.” Satsuki also looked like he had improved greatly, but still had to wear a few casts regardless. “Now the both of you: stay in bed for the time being. Bathroom trips are fine, but keep it to that. Me and Aelia’s work will have you back in action in no time, but we need to make sure the treatment takes.”

“Wait, are Satsuki’s limbs still broken?” Will questioned.

“No, we’re just playing it safe as medical alchemy is a relatively new field of medicine… despite my preaching about it.”

“It’s a little uncomfortable, but I’ll manage,” Satsuki assured. “Arigatou gozaimasu, Milan.”

“All in a day’s work, Satsuki. Now don’t forget your apples each day.” This made the others chuckle.

Adrien went for his remote and muted the wall mounted Television. “Will, I don’t want to alarm you, but Sebastian isn’t playing games anymore. He wants your head on a silver platter…” he paused when he noticed the others were looking at him weirdly. “What?” It then occurred to him. “Oh, right… sorry, Will. Head puns…”

Will took a breath, picked up his head, and let out a plume of fire colored smoke. “Well then I guess I’ll just have to call out his name when I see him,” he growled while trying to crack his knuckles and failing.

“Easy, Private,” Antares cautioned. “Murder is still murder at the end of the day… justified if you ask me, but let’s not play fast and loose with the law and military protocol.”

“While I appreciate your energy, Will, I got a bad feeling about Sebastian,” Adrien put forth.

Satsuki nodded. “He shouldn’t have been able to detect and spot the drone like that…”

“Was there anything mentioned in his meeting that could potentially elucidate this mystery?” Zoltan inquired.

Adrien thought about it, racking his somewhat scattered memory. “Well Valentin and Sebastian did get into a scuffle, and the former mentioned something about a graft…”

This made Milan go pale. “A graft? Did you pick up on anything else? Anything at all?”

“Nothing that would be of help.”

Aelia could see the worry on Milan’s face as plain as day. She knew all too well something was grievously wrong if he was worried. “Milan? What’s wrong?”

“Aelia, come with me. We have some calls to make,” he replied as he made his way to the door. “Galina and Ragna in particular.”

“Oh dear. Pardon me, everyone” she said as they both left.

To say that Olivia was creeped out by all of that was an understatement. “Zoltan, what were they talking about? Do I even want to know?”

“I’m not sure…” He then groaned. “I’m really hoping it's not what I’m thinking it is. If it is, we are in deep trouble and I wouldn’t put it past a degenerate like Sebastian to pull something like that…”

Antares sighed and pinched his bridge. “Nothing but trouble, I can feel it…”

After a brief silence, Will spoke up with a curiosity that was bothering him. “So do these two qualify for purple hearts given what they just went through?” This drew a few odd looks.

“Will, is this really the time for that?” Olivia chided.

    “I don’t know, I think it’s a fair question,” Zoltan asserted.

“Private, we have bigger things to worry about at the moment…” Antares admonished.

    “I don’t want a medal, I want a raise,” Adrien stated bluntly.

Antares and the others laughed. “I’ll talk to Colonel Aalders first chance I get, don’t worry.”

Just then, a phone on the wall began ringing with a special tone. Since Zoltan was the closest, he picked it up. “Zoltan speaking… Mm-hm, yes… yes… I see… We’ll be right over, Trumna.”

“What does Trumna want?” Will wondered.

“Will, Antares, Olivia; Trumna needs us in conference room 1A. Colonel Trelawney is here…”

    “Oh, him…”

“WHY? WHY HIM?” Antares groaned. “It just had to be Mark…”

Adrien gave a sympathetic laugh and a pat on the shoulder. “Best of luck to you, Anter.”

Antares was not thrilled that GRENADIER had sent Colonel Marcus Trelawney. Back when Antares was in the U.S. military, Marcus was his commanding officer. The two were rivals, but got along and made an effective team. Of course this relation soured when Antares was recruited into the Liger Brigade and Marcus was transferred to GRENADIER. The kind of officer that Marcus had become was exactly what Antares was trying to shield Will from.

Upon entering the conference room, Antares frowned when he saw Marcus looking over some data on the display screen. Trumna, Reynard, Jackson, Sam, Buster, Vlastimir, and Ekaterina were already there, so Will and Olivia sat next to their friends. Once everyone was seated, Marcus turned to face everyone. He was quite handsome with nice and tidy, raven-colored hair. His golden eyes were focused and scanned the guests, causing them to feel a little intimidated. As for his uniform, Marcus had several medals denoting his rank with a silver “GRENADIER” badge above them.

“Ladies and Gentlemen…” Marcus started in a calm voice.

“What’s up, Mark?” Antares blurted out, a subtle disdain in his voice.

“That’s Colonel Trelawney to you, Captain Briggs,” he snapped back. “Where is the rest of your ragtag brigade?”

    “We’re working on it.”

“Indeed… and I see we have an uncomfortable amount of civilians here…”

“With all due respect, Colonel, we have deemed them essential and in need of protection,” Trumna answered.

“And am I to understand they have seen top secret material, director?”

Trumna sighed. “Such complications are unavoidable at the moment.”

Marcus groaned in a way Antares knew all too well. The Colonel was about to get angry. “I would like to know why Valentin has not been apprehended yet and WHY A NAZI WAR CRIMINAL IS CURRENTLY STANDING ON U.S. SOIL, DIRECTOR!” Will and the others were startled by the outburst.

Antares stood right up and flared his nostrils. “Well gee, Mark, care to get your hands dirty then!?”

“If I was in charge of this circus, Private Ford would have been back home by the end of the first week!”

Antares and Marcus walked right over to in front of the display screen and looked each other dead in the eye. “Alright, jarhead: Just send a few tanks and trucks trampling over a heritage site into enemy territory INFESTED WITH SHADOW CONSTRUCTS!” The captain yelled.

“You’re clowning around is putting this city and hundreds of thousands of people in jeopardy!”

“Oh so it’s my fault now!?” Antares shot back as he began to walk around the table. “Why didn’t you get off your corporate ass when Valentin showed up in Will’s nightmares?!”

Marcus followed on the opposite side. “You Liger chowderheads are so lucky General Lundberg is looking out for and defending you!”

While the two hurled insults at the other end of the room, Sam grabbed Will’s hand. “Boyo, I’m a little scared, not going to lie…”

Will nervously chuckled. “Don’t worry, he’s usually pretty chill…”

    “Which one?”

    “Usually…”

“Fart knocker needs to get laid if you ask me,” Jackson muttered.

Zoltan cleared his throat a little and leaned in. “Reynard, did you…?”

“No, I asked for Colonel Townsend,” Reynard said as he lit a cigar. “Lundberg was insistent on sending Mark.”

“WANT TO GO AT IT, FOUR EYES?!” Antares shouted.

“BOY, YOU ARE JUST ASKING FOR THAT COURT MARTIAL, AREN’T YOU!?” Marcus barked back.

“GENTLEMEN!!” Zoltan yelled as he stood up and slammed his hands on the table. “ENOUGH! You’re both seasoned military officers that are acting like spoiled children! We have bigger things to worry about at the moment.”

Antares smirked. “Dork meister…” he snuck in, making Marcus visibly angry as they sat down.

“Antares, stop it,” Zoltan cut in. “Ahem, Marcus, we’re worried about Sebastian attacking the city and are strongly considering mass evacuations. Do we have the support of the Pentagon and GRENADIER if such an outcome occurs?”

“Of course, Mr. Dracul. That is our top priority if this situation escalates.”

Reynard took a drag of his cigar. “I don’t want to be an alarmist, but things aren’t looking good. Not only did Sebastian figure out he was being spied on, Adrien and Satsuki were jumped by an unreasonable amount of shadow constructs. I’m praying Sebastian doesn’t have an army prepared, but the evidence is pointing towards the contrary.”

“Not good,” Marcus concluded. “Trumna, what measures have you taken so far?”

“We have briefed the city leadership on the issue and EAS messages are ready to go. All we need is your assistance.”

“Very good. And obviously soldiers are filing in as we speak. Private Ford?”

    “Sir?”

    “Ahem!”

Will frowned and stood up. “Sir, Colonel, sir!”

“Regardless of what Sebastian does next, I shall be taking over guarding you…”

“Hey, that’s my job!” Jackson protested as he shot up.

“One that you have been doing poorly. Sit down, Mr. Woodall.”

“Bunghole…” Jackson muttered. Antares was also clenching his fist and glaring at Marcus.

Marcus composed himself. “At ease, Private.”

“Sir,” Will replied as he sat down.

Marcus then glanced over to Vlastimir, then to Zoltan. “Why is your son here, Zoltan? We have enough civilians here already.”

“Vlastimir and Ekaterina have been to The Unlight, making their expertise invaluable in this situation.”

“Me and Eka have been to the Dark Grand Desert, so we…” Vlastimir started to say, sounding quite proud.

“Ah yes, the whole ‘I fought the Lich and saved the Cosmos’ story,” Marcus said dismissively.

Vlastimir looked visibly annoyed, so Ekaterina spoke up. “I mean, I was there as one of the Lich’s commanders, Colonel…”

“Of course you were, Ms. Moore.” Marcus elected to ignore the foul looks he was getting from the couple. “Private, what is your progress with this… ULTRAMagic you’re pursuing?”

Will was about to answer, but Zoltan calmly held his hand up to him. “He’s almost done, Marcus. He just needs one more fragment…” Zoltan squeezed his hand like it had been cut, causing a green flame to drip into his other hand. “Will, much like Vlastimir, I don’t want to see anything bad happen to you. Do you accept my fragment?”

Will stood up and hesitated. Seeing how nervous he was, Antares got up and patted him on the shoulder. “Go for it, Will… besides, Colonel Sanders over there will blow another gasket if you don’t.”

Will laughed as Marcus scowled at Antares. “Alright then, sure. Thank you, Zoltan… and I’m sorry for my bad attitude towards you in the past.”

“Don’t worry about it, Will. I never thought ill of you.”

As the last fragment shot into Will’s chest like a stake to the heart, he felt an overwhelming amount of energy surge through his being. For a moment he levitated into the air as light shot out of his eyes, mouth, and neck. The others backed up, shielding their eyes. Will then fell back to the floor, with Sam going to help him up. Everybody was a little confused and worried when Will started laughing.

“How do you feel, Will?” Sam asked.

“HAHA, great!” He then summoned a flame in his hand and put it out. “Let’s go teach Sebastian a lesson!”

“Easy, lad,” Reynard cautioned. “Let’s not put the cart before the horse here. You’ve still got a ways to go.”

“Yup, definitely going to have to take you to The Unlight when we’re done here, Boyo,” Sam concluded.

“Excuse me, what is this trip that I did not authorize?” Marcus cut in.

Sam cleared her throat. “With all due respect, Colonel: I am a succubus warlord with extensive history in The Unlight and there is a guild there that can help Will with his magic.”

Marcus gave her an incredulous, befuddled look. “What in the blue blazes did you just say?”

“CHAMP!” Faustus exclaimed as he ran in and hugged Will. “Why didn’t you tell me you were going for your last fragment!?” Mayhem and Umuka had accompanied him and were in the doorway.

“Sorry, Faustus, it sort of just popped up…”

“Aw, it’s alright sport. I am so proud of you.”

Marcus groaned loudly. “Excuse me, who are these people?!”

Reynard laughed as he got up and patted Marcus on the shoulder. “Will’s partner devil Faustus Ashman, Mayhem Highland, and Umuka. All good chaps. Here, we’ll get you acquainted…”
