Fortunately there are several key factors preventing humanity from being overwhelmed by type 3 ghosts:
Type 4: [REDACTED]
[DATA EXPUNGED]
The Ghost Realm?
The Ghost Realm is an Aberration-type Reality Error that is ruled over by the mysterious ANTIMagic Specter. It is also a home for any ghost that needs it. This is where the majority of ghosts reside, contributing to their scarcity in the Cosmos proper. Unfortunately this is also a popular method of getting to The Unlight, which causes ghosts to either become irate and/or follow the living to the third dimension. Thankfully Specter keeps a watchful eye on the realm and who comes and goes.
Notable Ghosts:
While normal ghosts don’t typically associate with the living, some do stand out amongst the rest:
Nathaniel Fernsby and Adelaide Sallow (Type 2) + Trevor MacQuoid (Type 3)
The first two are a deceased couple who ran into unfortunate circumstances in life. Nathaniel went under the pseudonym of “Haunt” and lingered until he rediscovered his lover, Adelaide. The two wandered for a bit until settling down in a vacant house occupied by the ghost of a child named Trevor MacQuoid. Trevor was lonely, so the couple agreed to become his new parents in return for a place to stay. Of course they grew attached to Trevor and considered him their legitimate son.
Walter Nithercott/ULTRAMagic Walker (Type 3)
Walter is notable in that he is a member of The ULTRAMagic Guild. Ghosts are fully capable of achieving ULTRAMagic, it being potentially easier for them given that they do not have a physical body holding them back. Walter is considered dangerous, but the guild has vouched that his cause is noble and pure. The mage merely wishes to continue his magic studies. Currently he is exploring parts of the Unlight with his guild squad.

Ghosts
Ghosts are a bizarre class of entity that has yet to be properly understood. When someone dies, one of two things can happen: They can either pass on to the metaphysical realm, or they can linger as a specter until they see fit to move on… and if things were actually that simple, that would be the end of the story. There are also ghosts that are manifestations of emotion and ghosts that actively pose a threat to humanity. Understanding these entities is the best way to deal with them. Thankfully a great deal of research has been done by various groups and organizations, even if incomplete.
What is a Ghost?
Ghosts are a semi-incorporeal type of entity that have the ability to freely occupy the third dimension. They are difficult to detect due to only becoming visible when emotionally active and tend to linger in abandoned places and/or locations important to them. Usually they are harmless, only causing emotional discomfort. Their anatomy is borderline impossible to study with contemporary methods, but they do seem to base their unique biology on whatever species they were or the planet they originate from.
The 3 major types of Ghosts
To date, there are three major types of ghosts that have been documented. They are as follows:

The 3 major types of Ghosts
To date, there are three major types of ghosts that have been documented. They are as follows:
- Type 1: Embodiments of Emotion
- The most harmless type of ghost. They do not originate from a once living body, rather being born from collective emotion.
- These entities will linger in a particular area for some time before fading away or returning to The Ghost Realm.
- Type 1 ghosts will only react if provoked. The best way to avoid them is to either ignore them, or accept the narrative that they are merely figments of one’s imagination.
- Type 2: Wayward Souls
- This is the most popular and well known type of ghost. These are the spirits of man who feel they have unfinished business and linger in the third dimension.
- They will typically keep to themselves, but have been known to interfere with the living. They have received the nickname of “poltergeist” because of this.
- Much like type 1 ghosts, most type 2 ghosts will only react if provoked or approached. Type 2 ghosts are more cognisant than type 1 ghosts, so it is ideal not to harass them. They can easily harm people who do.
- The same methods for avoiding type 1 ghosts apply here, albeit more difficult due to the complexity of type 2 ghosts.
- Type 3: The living dead
- Not to be confused with the undead or daemons, type 3 ghosts are the most dangerous type of ghost. They are both corporeal and incorporeal. Type 2 ghosts share this trait, but type 3 ghosts actively use this to their advantage.
- Type 3 ghosts will either act upon a goal or will guard a location important to them. Most do not have any regard for morality and will inflict serious to lethal harm on anything that is perceived as a threat/challenge.
- A severe hazard presented by these entities is that they can be indistinguishable from type 1 and 2 ghosts until it is too late. Ignoring or provoking a type 3 ghost is incredibly dangerous.
- If a type 3 ghost is discovered, it is advised to evacuate the premises and wait for the ghost to leave. If contact with the entity is prolonged and detrimental, it is important that one permanently leaves the location and seeks immediate memory suppression therapy.
Fortunately there are several key factors preventing humanity from being overwhelmed by type 3 ghosts:
- Type 3 ghosts are incredibly rare. Very few actually have the ambition to linger that intensely after death.
- Type 3 ghosts are prone to infighting. This can cause collateral damage, but knowing how to avoid these conflicts will prevent one from becoming caught in crossfire.
- There are type 3 ghosts that are dedicated to subduing rogue ghosts. Most of these hunters will show up without need for summons if another type 3 is causing trouble.
- There are organizations and groups dedicated to the study of these entities. They will also extend their efforts to containing these entities.
- The entity known as ANTIMagic Specter will intervene if a type 3 ghost becomes too chaotic and will forcibly pull them into The Ghost Realm.

Shigeko Tsukumo/ANTIMagic Mania (Type 3)
Mania is a notable type 3 Ghost amongst The Liger Brigade and The Magic Anomaly Investigation Group (M.A.I.G.). She is a member of The League and a dedicated hunter of type 3 ghosts. Originally she was a normal person until she had fallen victim to a “curse” from a failed ritual. Her village had been subject to a rogue entity proclaiming itself a deity. It demanded sacrifices and Shigeko was chosen to appease it. Refusing to accept this fate, she ate a bundle of poisonous plants to spite her oppressor.
This hail Mary worked and killed the “deity,” but it also ended Shigeko’s life. Reportedly it was not a big deal for her, until a specter began pursuing her as eternal punishment. Shigeko would not take this sitting down and began strengthening herself while she evaded her pursuer. In time she would discover her aptitude, the anomalous hex magic. Using pyromancy to divine the location of her foe, she would catch them by surprise and seal them away in a cycle of failure with an unbelievably complex hex. This event unfortunately resulted in the destruction and reconstruction of the world in 1444.
After learning that it had been around 250 years and that the end of the world happens fairly often, Shigeko decided to explore Earth a bit. This was easy now that she was a ghost. Eventually she would settle down and marry a man named Katashi. The two would go on to have a child named Ryota. Shigeko did not realize it, but having a child as a ghost would drastically alter her son’s life.
Ryota Tsukumo/ANTIMagic Inferno (Type 4)
Originally an average teenager, Ryota Tsukumo is an incredibly rare type 4 ghost. Upon turning 14, Ryota discovered his magic aptitude. This was an aberrant variant of Pyromancy. While this magic is not considered a proper form of magic due every type being able to cast it, it can pop up as a unique ability. Naturally he had to discover this by accidentally burning down his family’s home. While this did cause some turmoil, Shigeko had been through a lot worse in her past. She was patient and used her knowledge of pyromancy to help the boy tame his magic.
Ryota was going through teen angst during that time and became a bit of a troublemaker. One day in 2009 when he was getting ready to skip out on class, a terrorist attack occurred at his school. He left the building at the wrong time and was shot in the heart. What happened next was incomprehensible. Ryota ignited, setting him ablaze with his own fire. The ensuing battle saw 90% of the terrorists burned to death, with the rest fleeing in fear.
Despite being severely charred, Ryota was still alive. In fact, he was doing better than ever, or so he thought. It is believed that ANTIMagic Specter moved him to The Unlight following this event to prevent damage to the school and his classmates. Once the adrenaline wore off, Ryota realized his body was still on fire and that it hurt. He ran around panicking and screaming while trying to put himself out. Throwing himself into water was completely ineffective. Stop, Drop, and Roll also did very little for his condition.
All of this did not go unnoticed, but the ones poised to help him could not approach without potentially getting set on fire. These two individuals would be ULTRAMagic Lance and ANTIMagic Eon (An honorary member of The ULTRAMagic Guild). Once Ryota calmed down, he was brought to the guild hall for treatment and training. David Livesey (ULTRAMagic Magistrate) was utterly fascinated: The boy had wild, white hair and charred black skin covering a fiery interior. This showed through his veins and orifices. Fortunately the good doctor was able to help Ryota regain his human form.
During his time at the guild, Ryota became friends with ANTIMagic Haze. The two hit it off, with Haze resonating with Ryota’s newfound desire for justice (this was just before ULTRAMagic Ignition had joined the guild and some time before he met Haze on Earth). They went back to Earth and began enacting frontier justice on the terrorists and whatever villain crossed their path. This little escapade got them noticed by The Liger Brigade and M.A.I.G. and confirmed the discovery of more ANTIMagic mages. Shigeko also found out about this, brought her son home, and promptly grounded him for a month.
Trumna Wintergate (current director of M.A.I.G.) and Dr. Reynard Woodall (Lead Scientist) were quick to recruit Ryota into M.A.I.G. while Haze was continuously pursued by The Liger Brigade. Once Ryota was a member, Trumna was quick to secure amnesty for him. And given that Ryota missed a year of school, M.A.I.G. would take over his education. Katashi and Shigeko were overjoyed to hear the good news, ignoring the fact that Ryota was now a pyrokinetic ghost that had been to The Unlight (disregarding the nature of his birth).
Some things to note about Ryota:

Some things to note about Ryota:
- His designation as a type 4 ghost is CONFIDENTIAL and is not to be discussed outside the secure premises of The Liger Brigade, The Magic Anomaly Investigation Group, The League, The Devil’s Brew Coven, The Red Order, or The ULTRAMagic Guild.
- Ryota would become friends with William Ford II (ULTRAMagic Ignition, formerly ULTRAMagic Shadow) due to the latter’s work with M.A.I.G. Bran Lommel, a scientist for M.A.I.G., would be the one to introduce him in 2020.
- Ignition was seen as the perfect excuse to keep Haze away from Ryota. Ignition, despite his madness, understood that frontier justice was not ideal for the entity.
- Ryota mainly fuels his fire by draining energy from other sources. This also gives a degree of cryokinesis. Ignition seems to have copied this concept with his partner devils, Faustus and Mira.
- Ryota’s body grew after his death up until adulthood, like normal. This is where things stopped, however. His body now sticks to an adult form that gives the appearance of being around 21 years of age.
- While different from Bethany Briggs, Ryota has been used as a model for study in regards to figuring out how other type 4 ghosts work.
