Valentina was not having a fun time traveling to the Iron City. All she wanted to do was deliver Blood-Wraith’s weapon to him. What she did not want was a construct from her enemy’s army pursuing her. Having had enough of the monstrous serpent, she got out her great lance and charged right into it. The speed granted by being in flight caused the foul serpent to explode violently. It sounded like a great amount of dynamite going off and shook the area. Naturally she felt bad as she most likely woke someone up early given that it was morning in the Iron City.
“Wait a second, why is he over there and not in the tower?” Valentina wondered.
Blood-Wraith was sitting there in his bed, trying to process what had just happened. He then heard the doorbell go off. “Okay… I’m coming” he muttered. Upon heading downstairs and opening the door, he was greeted by a familiar face. “Valentina?”
“Hello, Blood-Wraith. May I come in?” She looked a little frazzled.
“Sure” he said with a yawn.
“Is this your house?” Valentina asked as she ducked under the doorway.
“Not yet. I need approval from King Englehart. Kresimira sent out the letter yesterday.”
Valentina noticed things were not fully settled in yet. “Did you just move in?”
“Yup. I was out wandering when I saw Corentin clearing this place out. Apparently it belonged to some jerk called Milosh…”
Dragoslava stumbled into the doorway. “Blood!? I heard an explosion! Are you alright?”
“Oh I’m sorry, sweetie, that was me,” Valentina admitted. “I didn’t mean to disturb you, just had a little trouble getting here…”
Dragoslava took a second to process what was going on. “Hey, Val! Good to see you again. Also, Blood? You forgot your mask.”
Blood-Wraith inspected his face. “Shoot!”
“Goodness,” Valentina said with a chuckle. “I didn’t think you had so many eyes, Blood.”
He was about to get his mask, but decided against it. “Eh, it doesn’t matter around the house…” Blood-Wraith then indicated for everyone to sit down. “Oh, Val? The seer from Fire World says hi.”
“He does? Oh, um, okay then…”
“So what’s up, Val?” Dragoslava asked.
“Blood-Wraith’s weapon is done. Yours on the other hand is taking longer for some reason.”
“Really? Why?”
Valentina shrugged. “My Blacksmith friend is being weird again. He may know something we don’t.”
“Well that’s ominous given last night’s dream…” Dragoslava remarked.
Blood-Wraith was concerned by this. “Oh? Well put a pin in that for later, sister. I want to know what happened, but first weapon, haha!” He was very excited.
“Alright then.” Valentina reached into her left wing and pulled out a staff. It looked like wood yet had a metallic texture to it. “This is called Voidborne. It’s a sword staff.” She then handed it to him.
The staff was warm to the touch and ended in a sort of cross-like shape. “Okay… where’s the sword part?”
“Focus on the idea of the blade and call its name. You can do this silently or aloud.”
Blood-Wraith thought about what the blade could be. The idea of a huge, triangular sword popped into his head. It was crystalline, starting at the top of the cross and ending in a point. “Voidborne?” And just like that, the blade appeared, gleaming in the morning light.
“Oh my goodness, that’s pretty!” Dragoslava complimented.
“That’s Heaven’s blacksmiths for you” Valentina proudly stated. “Now Blood, this weapon will teach you how to use it. It will be up to you to master it, however.”
“I see.” Blood-Wraith focused again and dispelled the blade. It left behind sparkles that quickly faded. “Can it do other stuff?”
Valentina nodded. “Aside from the things like a walking stick, climbing, or pushing boats, it can also be used to cast magic.”
“Fascinating…” Blood-Wraith then noticed that the ground was slightly shaking. Figuring who it was, he went outside with the others following.
Standing before everyone was Leif with Desislav atop his back. “Hey, Sleepyheads! Leif says a new location just popped up, haha!”
Dragoslava was trying to figure out what it was. “Really? Where?”
“It’s a planet I spotted while we were at Cyclone World,” Leif elaborated. “Obviously we couldn’t go there back then because one, You were all getting tired. Two, Blood-Wraith was dealing with his new power. And three, It was very far away. Currently it is in our vicinity. If we move now, it will stay close by.”
Dragoslava was game, and so Blood-Wraith. The two went to go clean themselves up and get ready. This allowed Valentina to chat with Leif and Desislav for a little bit. Blood-Wraith retrieved his mask, brushed his teeth, and was back out the door. Dragoslava returned with her trench coat and backpack. With everybody ready to go, Leif bid farewell to Valentina and took off. Since she had time to spare, the dark angel headed for the tower. She wanted to see how the others were doing.
The group flew past Cyclone World, still stormy as ever. The new planetoid could be spotted off in the distance. Looking through her binoculars, Dragoslava spotted a somewhat normal looking planet. Getting closer revealed it was rocky and possibly devoid of most plant life. Leif seemed very eager to get there, flying very fast this time around. Entering the planet’s atmosphere showed that it was an arid planet with sunny, blue skies. Once on the ground, everyone hopped off of Leif and began checking out their surroundings.
“Huh… this feels a lot like Earth,” Desislav remarked.
Dragoslava was already collecting some rocks. “Very dusty-good. You guys realize some of the mud puddles on Cyclone World were pretty deep, right? That was annoying.”
Desislav chuckled. “Then you’d hate some of the bogs I’ve had to wade through back on Earth. Hip deep mud isn’t fun.”
“Everyone?” Leif cut in. “I’m going to go off on my own to look for something. Call out to me if you need any help” He then took off with a jump and a flap of his wings.
Blood-Wraith watched him fly off and nodded. “Well I guess we’re on our own… Hey, sister? Why didn’t you use the biplane to get to Fire World? This has been on my mind for a bit.”
The three began walking. “Well you see the thing is that those planes weren't built for space travel, on top of the fact that mine was in need of repair and that first one was a rental. I could modify it to do so, but I don’t have that level of expertise yet,” Dragoslava answered.
“I can see something like that being very involved, especially with Unlight physics” Desislav commented.
Dragoslava then picked up another rock. “Plus I don’t know what a planet is like until we get there, so God only knows if the plane could handle landing there. I much prefer people like Leif or Stolon-you know, ones that can adapt on the fly.”
That explanation satisfied Blood-Wraith’s curiosity. Of course that made him wonder what a space faring biplane would look like. Shifting his focus back to his surroundings, he saw many towering rock formations that were amazing to marvel at. They also passed by strange cacti and bush-like plants. Fauna came in the form of arachnids, insects, and skittering reptiles. A particularly big beetle landed on Blood-Wraith to rest, which creeped him out. Thankfully it flew off as soon as he waved his arm. Despite how dusty everything was, all looked fairly peaceful. The rocks and stones were also interesting and seemed like they were unique to the planet. All of this was causing Dragoslava to burn through her note pages.
“Do you guys hear something?” she asked.
“Hmm…” Desislav looked around, spotting a group approaching them. “That would be a yes.”
The group in question were what looked to be people made of rocks of varying shapes and sizes. One with a decorated staff stepped forward. “Hail, travelers. The name’s Chief Fire Rock. Welcome to our planet. I presume you all are also from the Unlight?”
“Yes we are!” Dragoslava was relieved once again that she did not have to hide any information. “Hi, I’m Dragoslava Raynot.”
Desislav gave a respectful bow. “I’m Desislav Robles.”
“And I’m Blood-Wraith Raynot,” Blood-Wraith said, avoiding the return of the beetle from earlier.
Fire Rock was interested in Blood-Wraith in particular. “If you truly are who you say you are, a good friend of our people said you would arrive on this fine day. Come, follow us.”
The Rock People led the trio back to their humble village. It was carved into the side of a giant rock formation and looked very rustic and cozy. Villagers bustled about, busy with their day to day tasks, trading and crafting various objects. Things seemed very active that day as they passed by a marketplace, with people calling out about their various offers and products. It legitimately reminded Blood-Wraith and Dragoslava of their visit to Fire World.
Something that was very obvious was that the Rock People were artisans. Gorgeous pottery, sculptures, and carvings were everywhere. This work could also be seen in the buildings which were decorated with intricate patterns. All of it was incredibly beautiful, with Dragoslava even stopping to purchase a vase that was quite gorgeous. The craftsmanship of it all reminded Desislav of the mountain dwarves back home on his Earth, giving him a very nostalgic feeling.
Fire Rock brought the trio to his home and went to fetch his friend. “Alright, I brought the travelers. Are they the ones you know?”
“Seer?!” Blood-Wraith exclaimed. “You again?”
The Seer laughed. “Blood-Wraith, you spoiled the surprise. Good to see you again!”
“So this is the seer you’ve been talking about, Blood?” Dragoslava asked.
“Indeed I am and it is a pleasure to finally meet you, Ms. Raynot” The Seer answered as they shook her hand. “And you too, Mr. Robles.”
Desislav was noticing some odd quirks about the seer, especially with his senses. “You seem to have impeccable timing, even for someone of your stature.”
“I go wherever fate commands, haha.” It was obvious the seer was hiding something. “Now Blood-Wraith, I see you got your weapon. I wasn’t too sure what weapon type to initially go with…”
“It seems fine so far. It’s very beautiful and-hey, what was that last bit?” Blood-Wraith was caught off guard.
“Oh nothing, nothing…”
Desislav caught that slip up. “Intriguing…” He muttered to himself.
“Ahem, as you can see Fire Rock, I was right,” The Seer pointed out. “There are indeed lands beyond Earth World.”
Fire Rock looked as if he had just lost a bet and sighed. “Alright, Seer. You were right.”
Blood-Wraith nodded. “Hey, Seer? How… Why did you come here? Aside from personal reasons?”
“Your visit inspired me to do some traveling. To be fair, I had been already doing that with my shop in the Market District.”
That had caught Fire Rock’s attention. “A shop? Market District you say?”
The Seer clapped his hands. “Absolutely. The Market District is the epicenter of trade in the Unlight. If you want to meet new people and cultures, that is a very good place to start.”
“Careful, it can get very chaotic at times” Dragoslava cautioned.
Fire Rock laughed. “Don’t worry, lass. My people and I are very hardy. We can handle whatever ruckus comes our way.”
The Seer paused for a second, as if sensing something. “Oh, guys? Leif will be coming back in a couple of minutes.”
Desislav looked out the window. “He found what he was looking for?”
“Indeed. It’s a map that will be very useful for all of you…”
While the seer took a minute to elucidate Fire Rock and the group, Leif was booking it to the village. Earth World had a map that could locate the Metal Oasis and even areas in the Deep Unlight. These maps were incredibly difficult to locate, but fortune had smiled upon them. The villagers were startled by Leif’s mighty presence as he landed. He then carefully made his way to the chief’s home, careful not to step on anything, and called out to his friends. They needed to get moving and quickly.
“Come on, guys!” Tyrant called out. “We need to get our rears in gear and motor out of here!”
“Aright, we’re coming” Dragoslava said as she exited with the other two.
“Is it that dire, Leif?” Blood-Wraith asked as he sat down on his back.
“Yes, The Lich is on the move!” Leif kicked off the ground with his wings once the group was ready and soared as fast as he could.
Fire Rock was astounded by everything that had happened. “By the great rock spirits, I didn’t even get a chance to bless their journey…”
“The Dragon of Old isn’t playing around” The Seer remarked. “His brother is committing a truly blasphemous transgression. The Lich’s arrogance is the last thing my universe needs right now…”
“Your universe?”
“Blast, I said too much, ha. Don’t worry my friend, all will be revealed in due time.”
Fire Rock shrugged. “Well since there’s nothing else we can do, how about you show me more of the Unlight through that divine crystal of yours?”
“I would be happy to, Fire Rock. Let’s get the incense ready. Did you know it took forever for me to get that crystal? Those ones are incredibly rare…”
