With things having finally settled down, the planning and preparation for Corentin and Kresimira’s wedding was underway. Midway through the week leading up to the ceremony, Corentin was busy working on the rings at Barna’s house. Hearing a hammer pounding on something, Barna paused what he was doing and went downstairs to see what was up.

“Boy, what are you up to? Shouldn’t you be at the rehearsal?”

“I know, I know. It was just that I had a good idea for the rings after a bout of inspiration. I need to get this out of my head…” he replied as he worked with the red hot metal.

Aureolus was eagerly watching. “Yeah, he saw some of the decorations Kresimira and Rose were considering and came right over here.”

“Fair enough I suppose,” Barna conceded. “You know, the funny thing is that I was just talking with Radovan over the telephone and was about to come down and work on them myself…”

“Speaking of that, do we have a ring bearer and a flower girl yet?” Corentin inquired.

“Yes… and no. Aureolus agreed to be the ring bearer. As for the flower girl, well in hindsight maybe I should have made your younger sister like I had planned, ha.”

Corentin stopped what he was doing. “Excuse me?”

Barna nodded. “I was short on material for obvious reasons back when I made you,” he said as he pointed over to a wooden crate full of metal bones. “From that point on I had the concept at the back of my mind in case you ever got lonely.”

“Huh, well then… perhaps you should extend the courtesy of my existence to her too…” He went back to work.

“You want me to work on her? I mean I don’t see why not…” He then went to get the crate and set it down at his workspace.

“I’m not against late wedding presents.”

Barna laughed. “Alright then, after my trip to Shadowland.”

“Anyways, I suppose we’ll just have to go without a flower girl, not that big of a deal. How’s the planning for the after-party going?”

“Very good. We got the food all squared away and we’re getting the presents… ha, the presents are being taken care of as we speak.”

Corentin took off his glove and let loose a barrage of lightning from his palm on the second ring. The result was a black ring with glowing pink lines in the form of a rose pattern “Excellent, just what I was expecting…”

Aureolus was amazed. “Incredible… how did you manage something that complex?”

“It comes naturally if you have a vision and the drive to make it. Annoyingly this kind of inspiration isn’t always present…”

Barna was thoroughly impressed. “Well done, my boy. You’re going to put me out of business at this rate.” They both laughed.

Something then crossed Corentin’s mind. “Oh, father, something has been bugging me amongst the myriad of other things… I can reproduce, right?”

“Well, I think so. I don’t see why you couldn’t. I made you with all the bells and whistles after all.”

“Brother, I’m pretty sure Kresimira will love you regardless if you can have kids or not” Aureolus pointed out.

Corentin took a breath to relax his nerves. “You know what? You’re right. It’s just that there’s this weird feeling nagging at me, pestering me to have a son with her… Pre-wedding anxiety is fun!”

“Don’t worry, Corentin, we all go through this worry at one point or another” Barna reassured him.

“What are you talking about? Gee, dad, where’s my mother?”

Barna laughed. “You’re going to keep yanking my chain over this until I find you a mom, aren’t you?”

Meanwhile, Kresimira was at the grand cathedral, originally for rehearsals. Since Corentin had left for the time being, she figured it was a good opportunity to work on the wedding plans. Naturally she wanted to help out, but she was also incredibly nervous and needed people to vent to.

“Alright, we got the guests set, food is all good, the cake looks delicious… we don’t have a flower girl… How can we not have a flower girl!?!”

“Easy sweetie, easy,” Rose said as she gave Kresimira a hug. “It’s alright. Our wedding didn’t have one either.”

“Ha, nor did we have a ring bearer…” Radovan added as he instructed some decorators.

Kresimira was surprised. “Really? No offense, papa, but that’s not exactly helping my worry at the moment…”

“Don’t fret my dear. What truly matters is that you have the rings, not if or how they get there. And speaking of that, Barna told me what Corentin was up to. Apparently he just finished both of the rings.”

It took a second, then it hit her with a gasp. “Goodness, he didn’t need to do that…”

Dragoslava climbed down from a ladder, having just put up a banner decoration. “Well shoot, I might just have to ask him to make me and Desislav’s rings…”

“... If he doesn’t mind, then sure,” Desislav replied. “Bit of a new concept to me, all of this, but I’ll go along with it.”

“You didn’t have weddings in your village?” Dragoslava asked with an incredulous, yet sly look.

“No, I mean we didn’t have weddings like this!” The others laughed.

“Oh, Desislav, did you acquire the roses?” Kresimira inquired.

“Yes, yes I did. Sigmund and Thora prepared them in the colors you requested” he answered as he went and wheeled over a trolley. It was full of bundles of roses in vases, protected by a magical mist. “There’s more in the back by the way. We have red, pink, and white all ready to go.”

Kresimira’s eyes lit up as she marveled at the flowers. “These are so beautiful! I can’t thank you, Sigmund, and Thora enough!” She then took a breath to compose herself. “Now then, when the time comes I would like these bundles along the wall. They should be… hum… do we go red white pink in a pattern or red pink white in a row?”

Dragoslava also thought about it. She was a little out of her depth given that flowers were not her thing, but she gave it her best shot. “Personally I think red pink white in a row… Brenna! Red pink white; should the white be at the far end or near the altar?”

“Altar. Have it near the bride, who is also wearing white” Brenna called back.

Kresimira nodded in agreement. “Yeah, I like that. Now what color should I have the dresses of the bridesmaids be?”

“Pink?” Dragoslava proposed. “Since red is too eye-catching and blue wouldn’t mix?”

    “Drago… You’d wear a pink dress?”

She nodded. “For you? Of course I would, sis.”

“Despite all of those muscles and… oh what am I saying? I’ve got a six pack under this dress too.”

Radovan and Rose laughed. “Well despite how unorthodox it is for such fit and toned women as yourselves to be wearing such effeminate clothing, you’ll both look beautiful regardless” she remarked.

Desislav shook his head. “Honestly considering the wedding ceremonies my people have had, this is all insanely normal in comparison.” That gave Kresimira some comfort, knowing where the former satyr came from.

“Well I’d dare say we have enough flowers to make up for the lack of scattered petals, all things considered” Rose assured her daughter.

Kresimira glanced around at all the flower-based decorations and laughed once more. “Fair point, mama.”

The day of the wedding was certainly a busy one leading up to the ceremony. Everyone who was invited were making their way to the cathedral. It was strikingly beautiful, adorned with roses and elegant decorations. In regards to the guests, A pleasant surprise was the entire Willfort family showing up, even Sigmund. He actually felt comfortable leaving the forest now that things were safe. Naturally he had to quickly speak with Englehart and Dunja before everything got underway. Once every guest was present and seated, the king signaled for the ceremony to begin.

Dunja and Englehart stood at the altar, ready to conduct the marriage. The pianist at the grand organ began the opening bars of the procession song as Rose walked down the aisle and took her seat. Next came Corentin… who was clearly nervous, but maintained his composure as he took his place at the altar. His best man was Blood-Wraith, who proudly walked down the aisle in his spiffy tuxedo. It was a surprise to some, but Corentin viewed it as an honor. Plus Blood-Wraith would clearly cherish the role.

The groomsmen and bridesmaids made their way down the aisle next. The former was led by Barna and consisted of Desislav, Vlastimir, Ivar, and Sven. The latter was led by Brenna and was made up of Ekaterina, Rowena Hayes, Olga Crowe, and Mariya Radovich (the last three being good friends of Kresimira). Then came the maid of honor, Dragoslava. It was quite a shock to see her of all people wearing a beautiful, pink dress. And finally came Aureolus, carrying the rings to the altar.

The music then rose, with Radovan escorting Kresimira down the aisle. The duke was dressed in his finest wear while his daughter wore a truly magnificent and regal wedding dress that was as white as snow. Corentin felt his heart race with nervousness as Radovan lifted Kresimira’s veil and gave her a kiss on the forehead, handing her off to him. Corentin wanted so badly to tell Kresimira how utterly amazing she looked, but he did not break from his role. To ease his nerves, he figured Kresimira shared a similar sentiment.

As the music slowed to a stop, Englehart cleared his throat quietly. “Greetings and welcome, everyone. Today we bear witness to the union of my nephew, Sir Corentin Schindewolf and the daughter of our illustrious duke and duchess, Lady Kresimira Raynot. Before we get to the vows and the rings, I must say I had no idea we’d all be here a few months ago. We have returned to our home, everyone is where they should be, our queen has returned to us, and the future looks truly bright for The Iron City.” This elicited a round of applause. “Now to the couple to be wed: From this day onward, you will be one. In the brightest light, in the deepest darkness, your unity will weather the greatest of storms. And if anyone objects to this union, let them speak now or forever hold their peace!” All was silent, so Englehart continued. “Alright then. Now, go ahead and speak your vows, the two of you.”

“Do you want to go first?” Corentin asked his wife to be.

“Oh, well if you insist. Corentin? I am truly sorry for abandoning you all those years ago. I was scared, but I should have been brave and faced the storm. To this day I regret my actions, but I am going to make it up to you. I promise I will be by your side, even if death does us part.”

“And I’d like to also apologize for my recklessness that scared you in the first place. Frankly it wouldn’t hurt for both of us to grow…” Corentin stopped, a look of regret on his face. He turned around for a moment and stomped his foot, eliciting chuckles from the guests. “Really? Why didn’t I rewrite that?” He took a breath to reset his nerves and turned back to face Kresimira, who had a forgiving smile on her face. “Forget it! Continuing on: I have the most growing to do here and I owe it to you. I can’t guarantee I won’t blow the grid on Wednesdays ever again, but I can thoroughly promise that you will be my all, no matter what happens!”

Aureolus presented the rings, only for Kresimira to get hyper and pause everything. “Oh my goodness, Corentin, these are beautiful!”

He chuckled. “Thanks… your hand, please…”

“Oh, right, sorry…” Everyone else giggled and chuckled as he put the ring on her finger, with her following suit. All of it was adorable.

With that done, Englehart prepared to finish the ceremony. “Corentin, do you take Kresimira as your lawfully wedded wife?”

    “I do.”

“And Kresimira, do you take Corentin to be your lawfully wedded husband?”

    “I do.”

“I now pronounce this couple as husband and wife!”

The music came back as the two kissed, the audience applauding as they did. This was truly the greatest moment in Corentin and Kresimira’s life. Despite all of the chaos and nonsense, the two were finally wed. Time slowed down for them as they took in the love they felt for each other in that moment. Their walk down the aisle felt like the beginning of a new chapter in their lives. What it would entail only time would tell.

As they all exited the cathedral, Kresimira tossed her bouquet into the air. It was unclear who caught it until Dragoslava held it up. “Sorry gals, but me and Desislav are up next.”

Just then, a giant, metal knight came running up to everyone and stopped right before them. It was Maximus, seeming more lively than before. “Dad! Mom! I’m here and… Aw! Did I miss the ceremony!?”

    “Yes, sorry, sweetie,” Kresimira apologized.

“Don’t worry, son-we assumed he who shall not be named was giving you a hard time today” Corentin stated sympathetically.

“Well he is, but Torunn is covering for me. I had to do something before I arrived. Better late than never I suppose…” Maximus pointed to the sky. It was strangely starry despite being daytime.

Kresimira focused on the stars as they moved into place. “Is that…?”

“No way, Leif!?” Corentin exclaimed. A constellation had formed, depicting that of a dragon, and one that was smiling.

“Well I’ll be damned, he made it after all” Desislav proudly stated.

Everyone applauded as Blood-Wraith ran forth and flew up into the air as Golden Dragon. He let out a longing roar, expressing how much he missed his friend. As if in response to this, a truly beautiful aurora enveloped the sky of the Iron City. Blood-Wraith flew about and through it, feeling the warmth of it comfort him. He eventually landed with his friends and family approaching him. The boy had the biggest smile on his face.

“He’ll be back, no doubt about it” Blood-Wraith said with pride and joy. “Now let’s head to the after-party, I’m starving.”
